Hello there, I have been trying to make hot keys in this game for days. No luck. I have tried ctrl+12, shift+12, shift while highlighting *a skill or potion* + f1-f12, Ctrl while highlighting + f1 - f12, and just trying to highlight + f1-f12. I am running the latest patch, Game runs completely perfect except that for some reason, it wont let me have hotkeys. Any info and help I would VERY much appreciate it, cuase basically, I give up, the game is about to go into the trash can hehe.

Where are you trying to highlight the skill or potion with the mouse cursor? You need to do so in the icon bar that pops up when you click on either the skill or potion button in the interface at the bottom of the screen, and then hit a function key. For example, if you open the potion bar and highlight the icon for minor restoration potions, then hit F1, there should be an 'F1' shown in the corner of the icon, and after that hitting F1 will use a minor restoration potion (as long as there is one in your inventory).

Once you have that working, you can get more elaborate, if you wish;

I click on the browse skills icon. I run my mouse over the skill, lets say, freeze. Then I press f1 *or ctrl f1,or shift f1, I have tried them all* But nothing happens, same thing if I try to do it to potions. No go though, nothing happens, nothing pops up on the skill or potion, saying its binded, and tried just using what i binded it too, but notta. I Just cannot get the darn thing to bind =[

If you use the hotkey Crlt-F11 to take a screenshot, does one appear in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\capture' folder?

If you highlight a potion, spell or weapon in the respective popup icon bars and hit Ctrl-F11 does an error message come up that that hotkey is already assigned to taking screenshots?

If you right click on an icon on your desktop and select properties, then assign it a Ctrl-Alt-Fx hotkey, can you use the hotkey to start the shortcut? Alternately, hitting F1 in most programs should bring up a help file. If not, there may be a problem with the function keys themselves.

Are you using a laptop or keyboard that reassigns the function keys by default, so you have to switch modes to actually use them as function keys?

No, no Picture shows up in my capture folder. Perhaps if you posted you keylist from you divine divinity folder i could set up bindings that way or something. I dunno. Oh, and its a desktop, with a logitech keyboard. No drivers for it installed. I tried installing drivers for it already, to see if it might fix it. It did not. So I am still at a loss.

maybe youve selected something in your computer-software that disables the f-keys. or deselected something that enables them. im no expert but i dont think you need a driver for your keyboard to let the f-keys work. i have a driver installed for my special keys(internet, email ,volume ,stand-by,....)my f-keys work whitout a driver.

I tried looking for something that might be doing it, but I have found nothing, I am super picky about having stuff run in my background. So I usaully set my startup not to load most of the programs that run in background alot. I dunno. I guess I will just have to trash it or something. Kinda sucks, I liked what I saw of it. Try booting into safe mode, and see if the function keys work there. You should be able to hold the F5 key down as windows is starting to get it into safe mode.
With nothing open, or all programs minimized, F1 should bring up the Windows help file.

In Windows XP click Start | Control Panel, then 'switch to classic view' (if necessary). Double click on the System icon, then switch to the Device Manager tab. In Windows 9x you can hold the Alt key down and double click the My Computer desktop icon.
What is listed under Keyboard? Try deleting it here and reboot to have windows reinstall the drivers (that may work better than updating them).

In the Control Panel Keyboard applet, is the correct keyboard language and layout selected?

Do you have access to a different computer, that you could try swapping keyboards with? If everything looks fine with the drivers and layout, it is possible there is something physically wrong with your keyboard. If your keyboard does not work on a different computer and that keyboard works for you, then the problem is probably the keyboard itself. If your keyboard works fine on another computer and that keyboard stops working on your computer, then the problem is with some Windows or keyboard setting, or a background program.
Your friendly neighbourhood computer store shouldn't have a problem booting a computer up with your keyboard to see if the function keys work (especially if that was where you bought it and/or it is still under warranty).



If you can not get your keyboard working, here is my keylist file. You will need to edit the file to reassign the hotkeys to non-function keys. If you are playing a mage and use certain spells, LMK and I can assign hotkeys to them (playing a warrior, many of the spells I had were from bought spell books or quest rewards).

F1 - minor restoration potion
F2 - minor healing potion (once you level up a bit, restoration potions are better)
F3 - Restoration
F4 - Freeze
F5 - Meteorstrike
F6 - Life Leech
F7 - Spellshield
F8 - Aura of Guarding
F9 - Telekinesis
F11 - Elemental Strike
F12 - Poisonous Cloud

i see you dont use the f-10 button to, raze. why dosnt he works like the other keys? and also the only f-key i use is the one assigned to the teleporterstones(drop and use). i just pause the game check my spells and skills(i got them all except the divine skills(there all level5))choose one of them, use it and pause the game again chosing another spell and so on.

I'm not sure why the game doesn't respond to the F10 button.
For the list above I just added what I thought would be the most useful spells from what my character knew, to have a better chance matching some of what Price wanted to assign hotkeys to. I only ever used about 5 function hotkeys: F1 for minor healing potions at first, then minor restoration potions, F4 for Restoration and 3 others for Lockpick, Spellshield and Aura of Guarding (the last two I just used for a stretch in the middle of the game).


Another possible workaround for the function key problem is to map some of the function keys to other keys. In Windows XP, this can be done using a program like KeyTweak. For Win 9x, MS included such a utility in their Kernel Toys. There is a warning that they are not intended for Windows 98, but at least the Keyboard Remap tool should work fine.

My keyboard works on Counter strike, my f1-f12 keys are binded for buying. So I know the f1 keys work, But I will try all the following suggestions and will let you know what happens.

Ok, thats a negative. Cant get them to bind still. I think I am going to call it quits, I was not meant to play this game or something hehe. Anyone know any other good rpg games? Other then elder scrolls, Bulders gate, neverwinter nights.. and icewind dale trilogy? Oh, and dont even mention diablo 1 or 2 *shivers* Those I have played, and some others, but I doubt anyone will suggest them hehe. Did you try editing my keylist file to use potions / select skills with non-function keys? That would work fine as long as you do not want to change which skills or potions you have hotkeyed very often.

maube there is a corrupted file or something like that in your DD-folder wich disables the use of hotkeys. if you got the teleporterstones i think it autematicly puts f1 on drop and use(or maybe i just do it automatic).so try that one out and if it dosnt work i dont now either.
