Well, just 1 more hour and I'm officially on vacation. & here is the write-up of my previous trip plus lots of pix. [color:"pink"] We were comprised of an uncle, 2 aunts, a cousin, her son as well as myself. My uncle parked his Land Rover in a village which i found (with pain all over), a whole lot farther from our destination than initially anticipated. It took us 5 hours of jungle trekking to get there; walked on jungle paths, climbed hills, crossed winding river(s). The name of the village is Rejoi. It was sprouted from another village, Semban, as it is situated nearer to their plantation. Later on more & more villagers move down which resulted in official recognition as a full-fledged village. The village is solar-powered to a limited extent. According to some of the villagers, the stored power can last about 3 hours. As far as i could see, powering only a lightbulb (energy-saving flourescent type) can go longer than 3 hours easily, as witnessed on the first night there. We were guided by church members/staff who are members of the village. So yes, this trip is a church mission which i tagged along for the fun of it. Despite muscle sprains, i like every minute of it as i get to push myself physically, enjoy nature, taking pix, help a bit in the mission, spend a bit of quality time with my cousin (as she is like a sister to me). What did we do when we got there? Totally tired & hungry, we munched whatever that we brought with us & drained our refilled water bottles. One of the church worker was kind enough to have us at his home. His wife was too kind by feeding us. Beautiful family he has. Last nite was not really a good nite for sleep; it was very cold, the blanket was too thin, my uncle & the priest snored way too loud (they said i snored too), & the fact that i don't sleep well at other places except in my own bed. Still it was nice to wake up to a nice, cool, quiet morning. With chicken chattering about around the village while children were in school & their elders were out in the plantation; this is a typical weekday morning in Rejoi. After breakfast, everyone is up & about doing their own thing; i with my reading. It was only towards evening when church activities started. I learned that the priest visits the village only once a month so services that he serves are often filled with people. The priest has to travel from village to village. The first of the church activities was the service, which was followed by a praise & worship session with the children. It so happened that the school was just next to the chapel. Children from the next village (which is about 2 hours of walk from Rejoi) also go to the same school, where they stay during schooldays. If there is one thing common among all the children here, it's the love of singing. Those are words of a layperson there & from what i can see, the children really sing with all minds & hearts. We left on the third day in the morning, at about 7:30pm. The return trip seemed easier but in actuality, it took us longer than 5 hours. 6 to be exact. I guess it's due to us taking more & longer breaks, as well as slower pace. When we got to the car, we were dead tired but happy. In my case, it's happy for being able to visit such a nice beautiful place, with scenic route where i can satisfy my shutterbug desires, & enjoy the walk. I hope to visit other villages which are situated near to the peaks of the range, where sunrises are said to be very very beautiful.
