If I can give some tips on making a good website Gal, as I do think I should know one and another about considering my job

- less is often more
- a webbrowser is not a game-engine
- Websurfers usually have little time, there is so much to see on the internet.

Basicly applied to your site, animation is good, but can be annoying to like those animated borders, doesn't add anything to the site but slowing it down, gif animations should be avoided, a good high quality image easely outclasses any gifanimation. If you do want animation, flash is a better sollution. (first 2 tips)

Your navigation is down the fold, as in a newspaper the most important stuff is on the top part of the first page as an overview of other interesting articles spread over the whole paper the part just under the table. It has page numbers this classifies as navigation. This has a reason, your navigation and what's most important in your site should be right in front of the surfer when he/she enters your site (except a splash or intro page wich are mostly for language choises or information concerning the surfer's setup).

The balance is off, I don't know what is important, where to look first. as far as looks go, that's a matter of taste, keep it readable that's only what matters on looks.

Gal, Draggy has very good points. basically he means that your site should have focus. there has to be something that is the main thing about your site which should be very obvious when people go to your site.

the design as well need to be done in such a way that people's attention will be focused on what u want them to focus, & not everything at one time, which is very confusing.

anyway, by now i think Draggy would've given u tips already on how to make your page easier to navigate.

I'm still waiting for Dragh to send me this pm in Flemmish. I suppose he is very busy and maybe tired after work, so I'll wait a while for him.
About the eyecatcher you talked about, I visited many sites before I started this, and to be honest, most of them don't have a main thing, but where it's all about fantasy or stuff like what they are into. And I had some tips about the navigation buttons, some told me it would be better if I put them all at the bottom, so that people would go through the whole page before going to the next page.
I hope this is what you are talking about? It's hard enough to make a site on itself, but in English it's even harder

In the meantime, I got that pm from Dragh, and I will work out some of the stuff he told me. I will have to ask my legal advisor for it

no prob, Gal.

just an opinion so up to u to consider what's best for your site.

as for the eyecatcher, u can always arrange your stuff in the first page in a few ways; importance, by date, by subject etc.

anyway, since it's still new & u don't have a lot of stuff in it yet, there's always room for change & improvement.

Can I repeat tip 3?

- Websurfers have little time, they won't read a whole page if the first look on the site doesn't interest them, you have to catch their eye and lead them to what you want them to read. Like a different color of your text or a different background. It's like a schoolbook, the keypoints are either in a frame, bold or both. If not most ppl mark them with an eyecatching fluo color Putting your buttons at the bottom will result in most poeple not eving noticing them.

What you in my opinion should do: change the order of your links, what you're site has and none other should be on top, like your husbands artwork. I'm sure there are hundreds of not thousands of sites that summerize the lord of the rings and it's characters, to the bottom with it.

Yeah, I will take care of tip 3, no problem. The only part where I don't really get out, is what to use as the eyecatcher. Should it be a word? Or an image?
Besides, this site is just for fun, I don't even know if I will get a 1000 visitors. But these tips will be very usefull when I'm gonna start my commercial website. If I ever get that far.

In the meantime, I still hope you guys appreciated the many hours I put in it already, I know it's not a gamesite or the sites you guys are used to go to, but it's made with a lot of love and commitment. That, for me, is still the most important ingredient to create anything

That is exactly it Gal, it is your creation, and you must enjoy doing it your way else it will become work, so go for it show your feelings Hon

Thanks, I'm glad someone is behind me in that. I felt a little pushed to change the best parts (for me) and allthough I like to hear suggestions, I don't want to change my website into something I don't want. I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say here. Some of you complained about the long loading time, but people I know visited my site with a slow connection and they never told anything about that. The only thing that bugs me, is that some folks can't see it in the right font. I made this in Papyrus, one of the basic fonts in Windows XP, but some see it in an ordinairy font. But [nocando] happens right?

this font thing can happen when ppl have there web browser options set to "always use my font" in which case there aint a darned thing you can do about it, also there might be older OS around that do not have that fond, so put a link somewhere, so that ppl can download the font and install it
This way they can see your creation as it should be, hmm you could say in the link " this website use Papyrus Font, for better enjoyment please use this"

oh and while I think of it, on some other post you used the word sheers, it is actually spelled Cheers, but I am betting that that was a typo and you knew that already

And bw, yes I knew that the word is spelled "cheers"

And about that link to the papyrus font, I did it way before you suggested it Haha, I was faster than you this time!!

Don't tell Lar, please!

Thanks for the input, really appreciated!

I just do this for fun (started a couple of months ago with 'playing around' - Kirill teached me a little), you know, so don't expect music alà Kirill. But... it's about the fun and the story I tell, isn't it?
