The controls are more or less the same as Knights of the old republic(Jade Empire)...
It has real-time combat which is different from KotOR. Whereas in KotOR mouse support would've been useful, it's a different case for Jade.
I don't get the feeling of freedom. Can you move the camera over the world or is it locked on your character? Are there open plains or are they all located between cliffs making corridors.
Skill system is good and very intuitive but not a whole lot of difficult choices. You are discouraged from creating a "jack of all trades" (but since it's a party you can specialize one char into one of the classes).
Hey Morbo,
Nope, you cannot move your camera from your character.
After the 'rainforest' dryad forest you are in a desert. I wouldn't call it exactly open plain but the areas are definitly wider than in the forest.
Those maps feel like shooter levels eh? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
Yes, the skill tree is definitly one of a party based game: I am currently playing a battle mage and looks like I'd better to stick to one element (Fire, Air, Death et cetera) [Ice is Nature Magic] and possibly curses.
I believe there are some balance issues: I am unable to explain why I had more trouble playing as a party (Warrior, Archer, Archer and a Dire Wolf cub) than I have playing a solo mage.
On the other hand, I like the addition of pets. Dire Wolves are powerful, fast and look fierce. It's the last living thing to die in my party.
I like the mage's weapon: Census. It's a good idea, after all why do I need a damaging weapon if all I do is casting?
Some quests are entertaining, there are dozens of sidequests and the whole game has challenge. It's not impossible but has it's moments.
I'd give DS2 a 4/5 score. A good game but nothing new.
