I am reading, The Nazi Officer's Wife How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust by Edith Hahn Beer with Susan Dworkin
It is a true story, well written and well worth reading.

Yeah, The Da Vinci Code sucks you in really quickly and keeps you there. Regardless of the topic, it's really well written.

I think you mean to say that the religious sect is the antagonist; and it's actually supposed to be a semi-secret branch of christiannity, that works for the Vatican. Of course, their portrayal in the book is different than the real group who found the DaVinci Code version of them amusing and exotic.
Robert Langdon, a symbologist that is brought into a police investigation because of some deep symbolism at the scene of the crime, is the protagonist. Yes, the story is very gripping and interesting.
Yet, I still think it's prequel, Angels And Deamons , was much better. I also enjoyed the other book by Dan Brown, Deception Point , more as well. Digital Fortress was also very good, but it bore too many similarities to Deception Point . Read him up, that Dan Brown. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

For school I read Umberto Eco's Baudolino. I finnished it last sunday, and it took about a month IIRC. It was quite slow to read. Never really got into it, but I still had to read it, since I read it for school. It's the last novel I had to read for school ever.
Yesterday I started reading another novel, called "En komikers uppväxt" by Jonas Gardell, a swedish gay comedian. The book's englishtitle would be "A comedian's growth". It's about a 12 year old named Juha (a Finnish name, his mother is Finnish) Lindström, who lives in a small suburb to Stockholm in the 70's. The book describes his day to day life, his social life, his work on being liked by his class mates, the hieracy in his class, his best friend Jenny who lives next door to him, and who doesn't have anyone but Juha, and who Juha abandons as soon as some cooler kid comes near. It's a rather sad story really. I can really relate to myself in it, though I had the luck to find my self in better classes than Juha (no bullies in my class, and no uncool friends I had to abandon in order to be seen as cool). It's just my last class where I had no friends. But we were all too old to be bullies at least, so I just felt not needed, not hated.
I just finnished it. As soon as I didn't have the pressure to read I read like I've never read before. Don't think I've read this much since I read Harry Potter and the goblet of fire for the first time (though that book was longer)...

Ok. During my time gone, I read alotza books. Sooooo, now I will give my report of each one of them in: Killerzzz's Captain's Reading Log !!!
"March 16th, 2006.
I have begun reading the book From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz. Stop. Am deeply intrested. Stop. Will see what future holds. End."
"April 9th, 2006.
I had stopped reading for about a week, then got back into the book. Stop. Am greatly enjoying it. Stop. 55% complete. End."
"April 19th, 2006.
Have finished the book. Stop. Average read time of approximately 29.35 pages per day. Stop. Took a total of 20 days to complete the 587 paged book. Stop. Next book to read: Cell by Stephen King. End."
I gotta say it was fanominal. I loved it. This guy really likes his crazy science+faith theory-mixy-thingies and I love it. Keep 'em commin' Mr.Koontz. This is a book that will keep you interested and wondering from start till end. In fact I thought the end was awsome. I highly recommend this book.
Surprisingly, I haven't seen any movies based on his books. There are many Stephen King movies though. In my opinion, even though I'm still slightly more of a King fan, I believe Koontz's books would be more well suited for the Big Screen rather than those of Mr. King. S.K.'s stuff is way too crazy to put into picture, but D.K.'s stories would need slightly less editing, and are more visual (that is, visible; that is, visibleable <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ).
But thats just my opinion...

Welcome back to Killerzzz's Captain's Reading Log !!!
"April 20th, 2006.
I have begun reading the book Cell by Stephen King. Stop. Amazing start; very visual and gory. Stop. Proceeding with mission. End."
"April 27th, 2006.
Have finished the book. Stop. Average read time of exactly 50 pages per day. Stop. Took a total of 7 days to complete the 350 paged book. Stop. Next book to read: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordon. End."
Loved it! King nails appocalypse again! I was worried that it would bear too much of a resemblance to The Stand , but it actually didn't at all. This was an original idea for this sort of story, and it was played out very differently than any other of its kind. Captivates you all the way through, and I was hitting an average of 50 pages per day when I was actually buisy. Horror book fans, hit this one!
By hit, I mean read. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
Oh, and by the way, this is a living-dead appocalypse style story, but do NOT make the mistake of expecting it to be like any of the others. Its not. At all. If the movie makers hadn't been spamming crappy living-dead movies lately, I would have deffinantly hoped this would put into film. As things are, I hope it will be in the not-to-distant future.
My future...

Welcome back to Killerzzz's Captain's Reading Log !!!
"April 28th, 2006.
I have begun reading the book The Eye of the World by Robert Jordon. Stop. It is the first part of the series The Wheel of Time . Stop. Having read the prelude, I now know from whence Lews got his name. Stop. Will carry on. End."
"May 1st, 2006.
Have skipped reading for the weekend. Stop. Will continue. Stop. Currently 5.9% complete at a rate of 24 pages per day. End."
"May 7th, 2006.
Did not read yesterday. Stop. My intrest has deeply grown. Stop. Reading pace incresed twicefold. Stop. Currently 40% complete at a rate of 46.29 pages per day. End."
"Have finished the book. Stop. Average read time of exactly 50.625 pages per day. Stop. Took a total of 16 days to complete the 810 paged book. Stop. Next book to read: The Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy. End."
This is the best fantasy book I've ever read. I enjoyed it more than Tolkien's books! And thats saying alot, as I loved Tolkien's stuff. Its just that, in this book, nothing went quite as planned. There were alot of turn-arounds, little hope, pain and suffering and loss. And the action was non-stop. Sure it had its bunch of description, but there was so much happening to keep you wondering that you can't stop reading! I had a slow start, getting to know the book, the style, the characters, the story... then I started reading 50 to 100 pages a day! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Seriously, this is a must read for any fantasy book or movie fans. And even if you didn't like The Lord of the Rings and you think this will be just the same thing, you are incorrect. I've heard from people who actually hated The Lord of the Rings that they loved The Wheel of Time series.
So, I loved it, you'll love it... go read it!
And, oh yeah. Like I said in the dated logs, I finally found out the significance of your name Lews. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> Lews Therin, Kinslayer.

Welcome back to Killerzzz's Captain's Reading Log !!!
"May 23rd, 2006.
I have begun reading the book The Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy. Stop. Not so sure about it so far. Stop. Looks can be decieving. End."
"June 6th, 2006.
Had stopped reading after the first day. Stop. Did not recommence until the 28th of May. Stop. Currently 37.8% complete at a rate of 14.81818181..... pages per day. Stop. Have become quite interested because of a very interesting scene. Stop. But reading rate is still slowing... End."
"June 12th, 2006.
Had stopped reading again after the 6th. Stop. Did not recommence until the 10th. Stop. Currently 54,5% complete at a rate of approximately 16.79 pages per day. Stop. Am fiding it hard to keep interest because of overly explained details about the politics of the different secret services and their functions. Stop. There has also been very little action. End."
"June 16th, 2006.
Did not read on the 13th. Stop. Then decided to buckle down and get'er done. Stop. Have finished the book. Stop. Book became suddenly very interesting with an excellent scene. Stop. Action continued after, but in a manner that was slightly repetitive. Stop. Abrupt ending with loose ends. Stop. Average read time of approximately 25.35 pages per day. Stop. Took a total of 17 days to complete the 431 paged book. Stop. Next book to read: The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S.Lewis . End."
Alright, so I didn't enjoy the book that much. But that does NOT mean that it was a bad book. Heck no. Its just not my style of book, thats all. I don't really like the large explenations of, not how the organisations work (thats in there too though), but of the politics of those secret organisations. Most of the book was the recruitment (same old over and over), the slow accumulation of information that won't make the reader say "Oh! It all makes sense now!" because there's nothing we ourselves can connect, and the slow not so interesting progress of the terrorists.
The action scenes though, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/kissyou.gif" alt="" /> beautifully done. Excellent. Action-packed, detailed, adrenaline-pumping, and all those other words to describe a job well done. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> The problem is, there are only two such scenes, one of which is quite short. The rest of the action is very covert and not so intense, and also without much resistance.
And I personnally didn't like the writing style and thought he made some logic mistakes, but THAT I blame on myself for I think I became over-critical once I began to lose interest.
From all the acclaim Tom Clancy has recieved, I think I'll read another of his books, give his style another chance for my heart. Again, I reapeat, its NOT bad. I just didn't enjoy it, and so, as a result, I became a bit over-critical.
I'm not saying don't read this book; I'm saying give it a chance, and maybe you'll like the style, and maybe you won't.
Only one way to find out...
