I'm starting up the Stephen King book entitled The Dark Half . I've seen the movie, which was decent enough. But 53 pages in, the book is lookin' better.

Killerzzz

P.S.: On the subject of Stephen King, I'd like to put in a nice little joke about him from the animated T.V. show, Family Guy :

Stephen King: Alright... for my next book, a couple gets attacked by a... *sees lamp on desk* A lamp monster! Ooooo!

Manager: ...You're not even trying anymore, are you?

Stephen King *jabbing lamp at manager* : Rar! Rar! Rar!

Manager: Uh... oh alright, when can I have it?

Like most of King's works, the The Dark Half was amazing. I loved reading it. Waaaaaaay better than the movie, by far. When you see a movie first, you are amazed how mutch is cut out of the book, huh? Yea, so I finished this one 10 days ago. I recommend it to those who like Stephen King books. Remember: the movies suck, the books rock.

I'm current on (about 2/3 through) Graham Masterton's The Doorkeepers . This one is also very nice. I'll give my full opinion at the end, but I can easily say now that its amazing.

On the subject of books ("Of course you're gunna be on the subject of books dummie, this is a book thread" ) I'm currently writing the short-plan-version of one. I hope to expand it quite a bit after I'm done.

Latest Book You've Ever Read

Momo by Michael Ende and after that the book that's called the "Wunschpunsch" in German (the title is a bit longer, but I'm too lazy to write it down). Both are wonderous books, especially Momo, which is simply woinderful !

In the next days I'll read his neverending story.

Do you mean the Never Ending Story. Like the one the movie was based on? If so, I must say I never stopped to think that there might be a book.

It's supposed to be beutifully printed, The Neverending Story, with text in two different colours/fonts. Thinking of reading the book someday, just not now. I have my hands full of The Weel of Time (soon finnished the first book) and books about computers.

Yes, that's true. One for each Part.

I have one of the early hardcover books of it, and Michael Ende - as long as he lved - fought against a softcover version of his book. He believed it wasn't appropriate to this book - to the overall theme.

I still believe he is true.

Momo and the Neverending Story (of which the movie is merely a weak version - although made quite good - are the both most magnificient books I have. I wouldn't go on an island without them, not to read them perpetually, but because what they mean to my heart.

Now that you guys mention how good the Neverending Story is as a book, I think I might look into it myself. Gotta head over to those good ole used book stores.

Whats the name of the series of The Wheel of Time? I keep hearing good things about it, but I have yet to find any of the books.

They're written by Robert Jordan . The first book is called The Eye of the World, the second The Great Hunt. If you feel like looking into them, that's all you need to know, that is more than 1500 pages . And I think you can find the title of the third book in the second (or even first).

@ Janggut
I had tons of stories like this. But "Puss in boots" wasn't one of my favourites.
My favo fairytale writers were the brothers Grimm. I don't know the titles of their fairytales in English, but here you can see the fairytales.
Have fun reading them!!

There was also a writer that had Indonesian stories, but I can't remember the name anymore. But I liked the story though...

@ Alrik
In general, yes. I have no time to read books at this moment, but I tell my son the fairytales I used to read when I was little.

The Ugly Duckchild is almost exactly the same in english : The Ugly Duckling.

The Brothers Grimm , I remember reading a couple of their stories when I was young. Hansel and Grettle in particular. I was actually very fascinated in the difference of the versions of the original stories and the ones you learn in school. The school ones are tuned down from the violence.
Ex School: The wolf in Goldielocks hides the gramma in the closet and gets scared away by the woodsman in the end.
Ex Real Deal: The wolf eats the gramma and Goldielocks, then the woodsman hears their screams, cuts the wolf open, and pulls them from his innards.
Big diff.

They showed the reality of violence to children quite early back them. Its everywhere from fairytales to nursery rhymes.
Here's one that still fascinates me:
"Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after."
Did anyone ever notice that little Jack falls down and cracks his skull open? Yes, its true. By 'crown' they mean 'the crown of your skull'. Kinda blunt, huh?

I didn't remember the Brothers Grimm until there was that movie lately ( The Brothers Grimm ). I thought "Hey, that sounds familiar". Of course, movies being what they are today, it had little to do with the real brothers' life. But it was interesting. Actually I wasn't sure if I should have been disturbed or entertained. Because it was disturbing. A very 'Darkside of the Fairy Tales' type movie. Interesting but odd.

Now, back to Latest Book You've Ever Read

I just finished Graham Masterton's The Doorkeepers . I must say that just reading the cover, I thought it would just be, you know, just OK. But now, after reading the whole thing... I really enjoyed it. Fascinating ideas and details. I don't want to give any of it away so I won't say more.

I've now started Stephen King's Gerald's Game . I'm one scene through, and I must say its weird. A couple getting ready to do a 'bed' game that ends up with the wife cuffed to the bed. But before they do anything, there is an argument and the wife accidently causes the husband to have a heart attack. Now she's chained to a bed in a cabin in the middle of a forest. I think its gunna be a book of madness and darkness from within.
