What is the maximum level you can reach by the end of Planescape Torment, assuming you explore everywhere and do all the side quests?
I installed PS:T on the weekend and checked out various FAQs to find out how important each stat was (basically to see how little intelligence, wisdom and charisma I could get by on as a warrior) and to familiarize myself with the D&D rules. Since most references seemed to think wisdom is great, especially for the experience point bonus, I decided to check how much of a bonus it would actually give in terms of extra levels.
I thought I recalled someone mentioning level 25 as about the maximum level, but searching the FAQs and walkthroughs I saved (just in case I got stuck) the only instance of 'level 25' was someone saying they used an object very late in the game to jump 10 levels and become a level 25 fighter. I didn't want to read through any more of the walkthrough to see if they had played as a warrior from the start.
Anyway, I stuck the experience point requirements and wisdom bonus values in a spreadsheet and checked a couple scenarios for a warrior (a mage or thief should be similar). Starting with a wisdom of 18 and putting a point into it at each of the next 7 level ups, you will have gained an extra level by character level 13 (ie without the bonus, you would still be at level 12), 2 extra levels by 17, 3 by 20, 4 by 24, etc (after that, for every 3 levels worth of experience earned, the wisdom bonus would give an extra level). With a constant wisdom of 18 from the start, at level 16 you would have gained an extra level, 2 extra levels at 24, 3 by 32 and 4 by 39. With a constant wisdom of 16 from the start (ie from what I have read, about the minimum to get the majority of relevant extra conversation options), you would not gain an extra level until reaching character level 31.
Wisdom may be required to get some dialog options, complete certain quests and to recover memories faster, but I don't think the experience bonus is that great unless you really boost wisdom.

Raze, I suggest going mage. It's so much funnier . As a fighter you can use axes and warhammers (if you want), as a mage you can use spells (and the spells is much cooler than the axes/warhammers imho).
And about lvls, after level 17, the only thing you improve as a figher is hp (and that's three points/level). And stats, I think. Oh, and possibly extra profidency slots to learn.
I usually try to styart with 16 in conc (extra starting hitpoints (nice), and +2 hp/level (and now I know you can't get more as a wizard). That means you start with something like 30 hp, and gets 6 hp/level up to level 10, after that you get 1 lousy hp/level), 16 in int (int is important for a mage, adjusts spells you can learn, and your maximum lvl spell) and 16 in wis. Then I try to boost my charisma to 16 (I don't want higher, my brother had 25, and when he asked the finall boss to 'give up' the final boss said 'ok'. My brother had some new cool lvl 9 spells he wanted to molest the final boss with) and my wis and int to 20 (I think bonuses boosts it up to 25. You get loads of bonuses on these two, at least if you're a mage). Since I don't fight much with meleeweponds (tries to use the profidencyslots I learned in my first figherlevels to boost my knifeskill), I don't need much strenght, and magus guard take care of base AC, so I don't need much dex either. But I can allways boost these when the other ones is where I told you I tried to get them (then I boost dex first). But that's me as a mage ...
Anyway, I don't think levels are that important. It's a lousy level-up system anyway, and trying to get that perfect roll with everyone when they level up (especially the multi-classers are a pain...) is enought to prevent me to exp like h... very much to get that max level. It is some extra statpoints (which can be crucial as a warrior though...) but not much more. Especially not after level 17...
And about wisdom itself, you need high wisdom or high int (and as a warrior int is useless) to get those conversation options. And recovering memories is allways nice, especially for the plot (and sometimes you get a bonus too. But who cares about character development in Ps:T? It's all about the story, really). Take the exp bonus as just that: a bonus .

[color:"orange"]What is the maximum level you can reach by the end of Planescape Torment There is no level cap in Torment. But I've read things get glitchy around level 128. There are areas where the creatures respawn. The best of them is UnderSigil later in the game. If not using the Fix Pack there also a few infinite experience loops in the dialog. Fix Pack http://planescape-torment.org/[color:"orange"]I thought I recalled someone mentioning level 25 as about the maximum level Level 25 doesn't refer to leveling up. It's the highest you can raise your stats to. Int is incredibly useful in PS:T whatever you are playing, because it opens up a ton of dialogue options - which in turn can lead to a whole lot more EXP, and get you out of some very nasty situations.
There is no stat that is not useful, in fact. The trick ts to customise your character to suit your style of play.

I think you can get those dialogoptions with a high wisdom too. And apart from those dialogeoptions int does nothing to a warrior. Wisdom gives savethrows (IIRC) and gives extra experience, so wisdom is more usefull.

Übereil True that Wis is MORE useful, yes As with Cha, Int is only useful to a warrior at certain points in the game.

I primarily played the mage class, but didn't use a lot of magic (mostly just for big fights). After finishing most of the game I was a level 6 thief, level 8 fighter and level 17 mage. At that time I couldn't sleep for a couple nights in a row, so got up and went through UnderSigil (I was too tired to want to head to the final area). Anyway, after killing time going through UnderSigil repeatedly I became annoyed the boss monster wouldn't drop anything useful, so went through a few more times, then gave up and headed to the final portal as a level 28 mage. Towards the end of the final area, before using an object that gives an experience bonus, I was level 31. Just before the final encounter I was level 38.
Playing again I would stick to being a fighter (though of course doing the quests to become a mage and thief). I'd leave intelligence and charisma relatively low (IIRC 12 or 13 is good enough for the majority of stat checks), and boost strength, wisdom, constitution and dexterity (in about that order).
