The BF is generated the first time you enter in each act, so the patch would not help the act 1 BF unless you reload a fairly early save.
I saved my latest quicksave under another name and started over again. This way I can find out if the patch worked, and if not I can just continue where I left off in act 2.
I have installed the patch, but have not yet reached the third level of a dungeon. I wish I had the time to play all day.....
I have noticed though that it takes less time to load the battlefield. It used to take at least 5, sometimes even 10 minutes to load it, sometimes the game even crashed halfway loading, due to not enough visual memory of Windows.
