and to those that stand idley by and are members of this community......you are just as guilty No i don't feel guilty. maybe im a little to senstive.......maybe .....maybe..... but inspite all this, put yourself in my shoes and how would you like to be treated like trash online......would you be hurt, mad....would you stay online?? what if they denied the charges just to egg you on?
how would you feel? I have already been treated like trash online. I was not hurted but mad. I answered with a post cynically ironic. And i did not leave the forum. Devdict is not a bad person but he is very rude. I don't think he hurted you on purpose. As i said before i like you and i like him and i don't want to see one or the other leaving the forum. The only thing i can say is that i am really sorry to see how you have been hurted. Barta

PLEASE!
On topic:
Melting ice caps, hurricanes, earthquakes - yes we had a number this year. Possibly, in the case of hurricanes definitely (we had a 'V' name hurricane this year, the first ever since hurricanes are named, and the season ain't over yet), it is more than average - but these things happen in geological cycles (which means looong time). I am not saying that these cycles aren't accelerated by influence of human 'civilization', but nonetheless, the cycles also are natural.
Two factors influence our awareness - 1. speed of communication, meaning that we know of any events almost in real time of their occurence, and 2. the fact that we have global records enabling us to visualize long term trends.
Let's however not forget (referring to my sig), information also is a resource that should be treated wisely...

I've seen enough pitures of once ice-covered mountains in the alps (even ones that date from looong before the NASA was even created ) to be persuaded that ice is melting, at least on high mountains in the Alps, in areas what we call "Gletscher" (don't know the English word now).
So this discussion is senseless/pointless to me.

There are a lot of speculative reports about how are summers are going to keep getting hotter, the winters colder, the gluf stream slower, etc. but at best our records can only go back so far, so can we say for certain these things are not just part of the planets life-cycle?
But then I suppose our gases are fecking up the atmosphere all right, and that's only in the last 100 years.
Anyway...a more immeditate disaster has claimed up to 33,000 lives and counting. Earthquake in Kashmir.

But then I suppose our gases are fecking up the atmosphere all right, and that's only in the last 100 years. I'd imagine it would be the last 200 years. It was probablly whorse in the 1800:th sentury, at least in europe (not much industries elsewhere). Übereil

In geological scale, these years are tiny, not worth to mention at all.
In human time-scale however ...

I'm no scientist nor a very learned person (in school terms). But all I know is that we humans have played with Mother Nature and all its laws like it was a game of monopoly. There were no limits to the damages we did. Now we have to pay the price. It's as simple as that.

@ DevDict Deva is the Sanskrit word for "god, deity". In Hindu mythology, the devas are opposed to the demonic Asuras. Only Alrik noticed that this should be a compliment for you

I wonder if it was an oxymoron: after all, Hindu beliefs in Atman and Brahman should negate gender distinctions between gods, right?

Gletscher = glacier, yes - and there still are in Iceland, above a volcano! Quite a mixture
