Hi all
I was wondering, what is the first RPG you ever played, PC or pen & paper.
My first was Diablo on pc. I believe I was about 11 - 12 years old and played it at a friends house ( I didnt have a strong enough pc yet). I loved it at once, mainly because of the dark setting (with the devil and scary church and stuff . So I still play it once in a while for nostalgic reason.
with regards

Diablo isn't an RPG! It's an action-RPG, which doesn't have much in common with RPG's, at least not enought to claim to be the same thing.
My first RPG was Fallout 2. I borrowed it from a friend, who had got it for free with a PC-game magazine. I think I was around 11 or 12, and this is where I got hooked on RPG's (and for real started to develop my 'command of English', as Jang put it ). Great times (now, several years after I'm a bit pissed I used a walkthrough in order to finnish it, but I was 12, so it doesn't really matter. Great game anyway).
And I still think there's no kids in Vault City because I have the European verision !

I believe my first RPG was Zelda: A Link to the Past for the SuperNintendo. Man, I loved that one. In my opinion, its the second best (at least, second most enjoyable) Zelda game out there. Do you agree? First one being Zelda: The Ocarina of Time .

My first RPG was pen and papyrus - Warhammer. I was around 12 or 13 I think!
The first computer RPG I can remember was Pools of Radience on the amiga. One of the old D&D SSI games if I remember correctly. It was remade a few years ago on the PC into some rubbish different version!

Heh talking about being introduced to RPG, my first was a P&P "Rolemaster" Campaign, and let me tell you that system is deadly, my shadow mage was casting the soon to be (but unknown yet) new party member saw me casting, being a typical combat tank he acted first and thought after, which meant he chopped 1 of my hands off, and I promptly died of a D critical hit by spurting main artery blood all over the place and was dead after exactly 5 minutes into the game

The first (and only) time I played pen and paper RPG (or classical RPG) was last summer (not this year, but last year) with my brother and some of his friends. They were testing this new system (the 'Buffy the Vampire slayer' system), and allso introduced some new players (it turned out to be me alone ). The only noteable things that happened was that a) I got my jock too much int. I put 2 in int, then the 'jock' trait brought a -1 to all int checks, so that extra one in int was watded anyway (otherwise I was kind of happy with my sadistic quarterback. Apart from being pretty new to roleplaying in RL) and that b) I acually enjoyed it (thought I would). The problem is that playing with a bunch of 5-10 years older friends of my brother who has played for 10 years isn't really... what I would start with. And unfortunantlly I am clueless on where to start otherwise . Übereil

My VERY first RPG EVER was a session for beginners in DSA in the biggest board games exhibition / toy fair here in Germany ( an article in a local newspaper even says it's the biggest board game fair WORLDWIDE ) in 1998 or 1997. This weekend it takes place once again, and going to it is a nice tradition I'm truly looking forward through the whole year ! That's the website of it : http://www.merz-verlag.com/spiel/e000.php4In THAT particular session the DSA-Character Alrik Fassbauer was born ! @Übereil : Haven't you got groups or websites in your country where you could look for other RPG gamers ? Here in Germany there are special databases (well, kind of) just for that (although I never used one this far ) .

Hell, I don't think I can think back that far. It was one of: - Fairy Tale
- Fantasy
- Bard's Tale
The first one I really got into was Quest for Glory I.

mine's an action RPG, Nox, which i have fond memories still, unlike that of Diablo2.
as for something more RPG, yet it's more combat-oriented, Fallout Tactics. one of my most-loved games of this lifetime.
& as for something that smells of a true RPG would be NWN, but it was not that great. thankfully there's DD.
yep, i wasn't much of a gamer till computer comes along.

My first computer RPG was Diablo. The original.
Before that, I only played the other types of games (Raptor: Call of the Shadow - PowerCollecting-Arcade-PlaneShooter; Doom - FirstPersonShooter; Stunt Island - FlightSimulator; Commander Keen; Duke Nukem; Bio Menace; Wolfenstein; Crystal Caves; Cosmoe's Cosmic Adventure; God of Thunder; etc).
The funny thing is, when I'm tired of all these modern RPGs, I just go reinstall Diablo and beat it a few times. Its actually pathetically easy after beating Diablo II for a while.

The first?
Long time hence...
The first one with RP elements was 'Larn' - originally Unix-based, monochrome, "graphics" all dots and letters, played on an XT under DOS 5.0 (or was it still 3.3? My memory fails me...)
Whether that counts? I don't know - it lies in the 'eyes of the beholder' <- which would probably qualify

Lands of Lore was my first RPG. That is still a magnificent game.
I am in blood Stepp'd in so far, that, should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o'er.

I still don't think action-RPG's can be counted as RPGs. It's a bit like saying FIFA (or NHL, or NBA or whatever) is a sport. It's just not the same thing, even though it's related. Übereil

Hmm first C-RPG me think IIRC was a thing called the Twin Towers, it was a combination of screen shots and text input, and it drove me totally frigging nuts, thus happened The Eye of the Beholder 1,2 and 3 awesome!!! together with all the episodes of Might and magic ..... to which I unfortunately lost interest by episode 8(?)

@ Ube -> well if u must know, my first RPG was not table-top, nor CRPG, none of the like but played around the neighbourhood.
i'm talking aobut playing with friends in the neighbourhood when i was a boy. after watching classic cartoons or animes, we would role-play as heroes & monsters & villians. there are also times when we role-play as police versus robbers.
now ain't that real deal RPG?
