You're meant to get bumps and bruises as a kid! The sites were fairly safe. It was just houses, so everything was bolted down well. Falling or metal edges were the only real dangers. But now there's temporary fencing up at every construction site. I think some people have realised how much unguarded construction materials are worth.
Janggut, you must have had somewhere that was what it wasn't when you were playing as a kid?
all in the backyard, HEF. or to be more accurate, around the house & neighbourhood. i used to live in government quarters (my dad was a policeman), barracks to be exact. since the floors of the barracks are raised, there's a lot of space 'neath for kids to play/horse around. for older kids (10-12), they would venture further out to nearby streams or ponds to catch fish & stuff. but that's not RPG.
there were times though when we would play in some of the empty barracks around the camp but it was very risky as the barrack weren't in good condition & in need of major repair plus with no adult supervision, that's really playing with fire. but as kids, FUN is first & foremost with whatever else as distant second.
most of the time when i was a kid, my brothers were my play buddies so we shared most of our toys. come to think of it, we did a lot of role plays with our toys (robots, soldiers, vehicles, building blocks etc) & made worlds of our own. it was really really fun that many times we wouldn't put away our toys as we wanted to continue the game the next day & onward.
