Okay, I'll use this thread to put it snippets more or less connected to RPGs and to gaming in generel if they are in English language. You can post some, too. Alrik I begin with two entries from RPGDot : German to abolish violent games ?Looking for Writers (Can't judge how serious this is.)

Try of a translation of the rule book for the Reaölms of Arcania (the English version of the German C-RPG - Trilogy "Das Schwarze Auge" containing the "Blade of Destiny", "Startrail" and "Shadows over Riva" in the English version; for historical reference : LMK, the abandones game co-produced by Larian & Attic was meant to be a DSA game (DSA = Das Schwarze Auge is the RPG system for the Realms of Arcania). http://www.nordflottille.de/Englisch/reofark.htm

A bit too obvious if you check the date . Speaking of that, there hasn't been a joke from the larians this year either... Übereil

Hello, everyone. I seek a little bit help. I just visited the site of the "Grumpy Gamer" Ron Gilbert, and he wrote about a game he found impressive. It's here : http://www.anotherworld.fr/The problem is that I cannot understand a thing, because it's written in French. Can someone of you French speaking peple sum it up what's this game about ?

Another World (aka. Out Of This World) is an older game from 1991. It was one of the first to incorporate cinematic features in an action game. It used to be available as abandon-ware, but now they're re-releasing it. It was an amazing game, but bloody tricky. Some parts needed perfect timing to be completed.
You're a young nuclear scientist working on the particle accelarator one stormy night. During a test run, lightning strikes the facility and is accelerated towards the control centre. Upon striking it, you are blown into an alien dimension under control of a ruthless race. You are taken prisoner and spend the rest of the game simply trying to survive and escape from the prison. Flashback and Fade to Black were the sequels, but I never got into them.

GREAT NEWS ! : A dream comes true (at least for German RPG players) : As you might know, I came to the Larian forum because of their involvement with LMK, which was to be an DSA game, but was later cancelled. Now, the dream that actually seems to come true is that after all these years of a serious drought there is a NEW DSA game announced ! DSA is German's favourite (or at least well-known) RPG system. The games "Blade of Destiny", "Startrail" and "Shadows over Riva" (for more info look into the database of RPGDot) were actual DSA games by Attic, converted for the international market by SirTech (they're not 100 % clones, though. For example the ratio of given experience points is about 1:50 (original:clone) ). For more information on Larian, Attic and LMK look into this thread : The Lost Kingdom Books and here : The Truth aboout LMK translatedThe new game will probably incorporate the fourth edition of DSA, which can be found here : http://www.thedarkeyerpg.com/The older games were still DSA3 or even DSA2 (third and second editions, respectively). The new game will have the title "Drakensang". At dtp / Anaconda, German publisher of mainly Adventures, there are even a Forum and a web site registered for them. Alrik

Great quote from Richard Garriot in an interview : GB: The fourth Ultima is considered one of the finest in the series because it was the first to feature the now-famous virtue system. Where did this idea originate from and how did it influence the remaining Ultima titles for years to come?
Richard: When I was creating Ultima IV, I was worried that it would be a flop. I labored over the virtues to the degree that I felt no one would understand or appreciate. It grew out of a response to the flak RPG’s get by religious extremists who decry RPGs as “the devils work.” I had noticed that most RPGs have the same boring, morally ambiguous plot: “You are supposed to be the hero. Go kill the bad guy,” but most players pillage and plunder in order to gain the power required to kill the “bad guy” who has done nothing active in the game but wait for you to come kill him. Players are, in fact, usually the “evil” force. So I decided to make a game that tested IF you really were a good or evil character. Most players began playing in their old ways until they realized they were going downhill due to their behavior and quickly responded, happily amazed at the hidden tests that affected their gameplay.
