I think the glitch with the configuration program's test is due to Divinity being designed before the Radeon cards were out. Hopefully the next patch will fix this.
You can click on the grail and toss it towards the door a couple times, then pick it up and leave when you are close. Or grab it and use a shadow potion. As a warrior I let them surround me and used my spin attack a few times. If you grab it and run to the back of the room, you should only be followed by a couple mummies, then you can slowly make your way back killing them a few at a time. Same thing if you leave and return.
There are some good one handed swords around, so keep the shield until you can put it to use. Also, when you equip all 5 pieces of the Dragon armour set, you learn a level in Elemental Strike and get some experience.
BTW, are you using
Restoration potions, rather than health/mana?
