***SPOILER***

after you assemble the council of seven there is a cut-scene... janus appears and everyone is wiped out except for zandalor...

i've read that your character is supposed to wake up in the land of the dead, gain some levels and become the divine one...

but for me, i get a black screen! all i can see is the skills/stats/potion panels and a few green dots on a black mini-map... has anyone come across this bug before? if so, what can i do to fix it?

Insert the play CD into an optical drive. No-CD hacks can not handle the cutscene video played at that point (you will also require the play CD for the final cutscene at the end of the game).

Obviously not <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> But seriously: a full install usually results in a better performance, yes, or can just make things easier. Look at Baldur's Gate: installing the game in its entirety means you avoid having to switch cd's all the time.

It depends on the game whether they will work better without a CD. Older games tended to leave large files on the CD to minimize hard drive space requirements, so could benefit from copying those files to the hard drive and changing a registry entry or configuration file (where possible). DD only checks the CD on startup and for the blessing ceremony and end game videos, so bypassing the CD would only really help if your optical drive is noisy and Windows decides to spin it up periodically.

With the latest patch installed, disabling the intro videos (see this topic) will eliminate the CD check on startup, but you will still need the play CD for the blessing ceremony and end video.
