There is a
manual install procedure for Divine Divinity, which you may be able to use to fix the error message on loading screens, and possibly allow you to play the male mage. Extracting the relevant files may work better manually than from the install program, and a couple people were able to copy a rar file off the CD onto their hard drive, and extract the files from there when trying directly off the CD gave an error.
There are places online where you can get both DD and BD. Unfortunately, shelf space is at a premium, so if a game is not either new or really popular it doesn't stick around long in retail stores.
