I am still curious what use SLI is for when you've only got one graphic card. Could you please inform me of that?

For the computer on my homesite I will have a 'Leadtek WinFast GeForce 7900GT Extreme 256Mb DDR3 HDTV-out DUAL DVI SLI-ready RETAIL PCI Express' graphic card.

Of course SLI has no use when you have only one graphics card. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> It's as simple as that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

How often do you have two graphiccards then? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" /> Well, one difference less between GeForce and Radeon...

I will use sli once the card that I have is lowered alot in price. Then you can ugrade your pc without bying a completely new card.

As for SLI needing 2 cards. It's true but theire is a loophole. the command set of sli has been use also to put two gpu chips on one card. This was actually a clever trick by some producers.

If two graphics cards in one system are too expensive or simply not fast enough, Gigabyte's new 3D1 board may be worth a serious look. Sources told Tom's Hardware Guide, that the company prepares to launch a dual-GPU card Friday, saying that it will "revise the VGA performance ranking".

1The card integrates two Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT graphics processors and is the first 6600 GT card on the market to offer a total of 256 MByte DDR 3 memory and 256 Mbit of memory bandwidth, according to the manufacturer. The card is cooled by two on-board fans.

The 3D1's two processors communicate through Nvidia's SLI interface and achieved 14,293 points in 3DMark2003, sources at Gigabyte said. This would not only be almost twice the performance of a regular 6600 GT card, but also more than ATI's Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition, which achieved in Gigabyte's test environment 13,271 points and Nvidia's GeForce 6800 Ultra, which posted 12,680 points.

I am thinking of buying a new (agp) graphics card, to 1 ill hope to run the next gen games on high (not highest)...

two possible of my finds:
---Club 3D Radeon X800 Rage Xtreme 256MB GDDR3 (about 170 Euros)
---Sapphire AGP Radeon X1600Pro 512MB DDR2 (about 135 Euros)

link to specs X800 card:
http://www.club-3d.nl/productshow_v...;filter=&selection=&l=en

link to a card that is almost the Sapphire card (just Club 3d too..):
http://www.club-3d.nl/productshow_vga.php?ordercode=CGA-P162TVD&l=en

I see that the X800 has 12 pixel pipelines, while the 1600pro has only 4...I think this makes the X800 way better right?

Anyway any other good cards who are not really expensive? ( not more then 150E, highest = 175E)

thnx, grttz, thadivine

Check out GeForcecards too. At least the newest series are cheaper than Radeon (often).

I think i need at least Geforce 6800 then. I heard from a friend of mine he is running oblivion at full (without AA and stuff tho) with an X700.....
Then ive read the 1000X series are the only one enabling HDR + AA...

Anyway I need a good budget card, does any1 have some specific ones worth the buy...

If you care the newer GeForce-cards are smaller (less transistors) than the new Radeon-cards, which SHOULD mean that it requires less electrisity (without being able to do less).

I have GeForce 6800 128 MB. Oblivion lags like... Wish I could have gotten a 6800 256 MB, but no, you had to get 6800 GT to get 256 MB, and that was just too expensive...

Note that Sapphire only has a 2 year warranty. Recently The Sapphire card I bought before BD came out died suddenly (a game locked up, and the computer failed to POST trying to reboot) 2 years and a month after I bought it. There is no grace period on the warranty.

I replaced the card with a similar Gigabyte model. Their warranty is 3 years parts, 2 years labour, based on the date of manufacture. I don't know if they have some grace period if you have a receipt to prove when you bought it (my date of purchase is 3 months after the date of manufacture), but hopefully that will not be an issue.

My choice of replacements locally were limited to either Sapphire or Gigabyte (the few online places I checked either didn't carry older AGP models or had them way over-priced).
