My wife has just purchased for me and I have been waiting patiently for it to arrive for 4 days now. I guess if today had not been a holiday I would have had it by now. Anyhow, I just wanted to drop in Introduce myself, and ask...

1.Any tips on playing for the new guy?

2.Does your charachter type or alignment really effect the gameplay.

3. What does one charachter type/Alignment Type hold over another one.

Thanks in advance for any replies and if anyone wants to contact me to discuss the game outside of the forums my email for MSN is in my profile.

hey, welcome to the forum

Now Im more a Divine Divinity player then a BeyondDivinity player, but ill try to answer your questions anyway

1. I really dont know

2. You can form the character as you want it, you are not limited to any of the classes, they are just "starting classes" and will give you alittle boost on the start of the game for a certain class.

3. you have 3 types of skills you can mix up, warrior, mage and survivor(rogue). I think this question will become clear when you start playing

grttz

If you don't get the game tomorrow, you can download the demo : Beyond Divinity Demo and you will discover the beginning of the game, the characters and the skills.

I actually downloaded the demo in anticipation of the games arrival, sadly however, every time I would to the charachter selection screen my computer would just freeze up. Im not sure why though as according to the minimum system requirements my pc should be able to handle the game no problem...

The math appendix of the Beyond Divinity Strategy Guide gives a description of the effect of the main stats, and some general suggestions for stat point distribution.

The beginning of the game is probably easier playing warrior type characters, though once you get up a few levels you can start developing one or both main characters as a mage or survivor. The more powerful spells, particularly shaman magic, start to become available in act 2, so you might want to equip a mage with a bow as a backup or supplement to magic.

Your chosen character class merely determines your starting skill point distribution (or you can use a custom distribution) and the initially available skills. You may develop your characters however you wish after that.

There are no restricted character types, so it would be difficult to say one particular build has benefits over another. I played the beginning of the game with both characters melee warriors, then switched one character to a full time archer (the patch makes arrows cheaper and more plentiful, among other things). Having one tank warrior and one ranged character (archer or mage) works well, but people have also played 2 melee warriors successfully. Two ranged characters might run into problems when they have to fight close range.

The DK's armour class goes up with his level, so you may want to make your hero a warrior, and the DK an archer or mage (that way you can neglect the DK's strength in favour of agility for an archer or intelligence for a mage).

There are some strategies for the start of the game in the topic Killing Fergus, though I would wait until you are up to that point to read it, to avoid spoilers.

As for the demo, check if there are any updated drivers for your video card. This was more of problem with the full game than the demo, but updated drivers have fixed similar lockups.

I shall answer your first question. I assume, by the kind of questions yor have asked that you are familiar with the RPG terminology.

Get a good weapon asap. This makes "killing monsters" part of the game really easy. Then you can focus more on quest solving. Kill monsters first and solve quests later. This will give you more exp which translates to more levels. I kill all the hostile monsters in the area before even starting to talk about quests. Use a ranged character and a melee warrior.

I haven't even gotten the game yet and already I have recieved a wealth of information. Yes I am familiar with RPG terminology as I was once an avid D&D Player and have been playing RPG'S since I was about 10 lol 15 years ago. I thank all of you for the warm welcome and for the information as well it was very helpful. See you on the boards.

another problem with the demo could be that you have no or an too old direct x version, but i guess this is not the problem

Originally thought of that as well so I went to direct X website and made sure I had the latest version. But I still appreciate the tip.
