What I find as one of the more frustrating things is Dogs becoming hostile for no reason. I've been checking on them to make sure they're not hostile and when they are finding out why. Aside from the obvious like attacking them.

One problem is Lar, the dog that appears in the Dwarven Bread Inn. He only appears after the player has been to the Dwarf village, Glenborus. Otherwise there's a Dwarf in that room that offers gems. If you enter the room while Lar is there he turns hostile. If you leave the room he becomes friendly again. You can tell by watching his icon on the minimap. If you attack he remains hostile. A problem I've run into is passing by the back of the inn. While walking around the building I triggered the Dwarf and had a conversation with him through the wall. I think a few times I also triggered Lar's aggression the same way. But since I wasn't actually in the room I couldn't leave it to turn him back.

Another big one is that other creatures are apparently aligned with the Dogs. In the hill area next to Glenborus there's a large, green wasp that won't attack. It appears green on the minimap. I think one time I set off the Dogs by killing this wasp thinking it was just an ordinary one. In Verdistis there's a swarm of Mosquitoes. When the Dogs are friendly so are they. And attacking one makes both species hostile.

Theory: All of these animals are actually Imps in disguise.

Side note: I may be imagining this but in the room at the start of the game the dark and light areas on the back wall look like they're in the shape of a dog.

I never noticed that, and don't recall anyone else mentioning it in the forum either. Someone did mention a friendly wasp (in a different area) that I didn't see, but I never connected its alignment to that of dogs (Lar attacked me, so must have wanted to die; I never thought to try running out of the room).
Attacking a wolf if there is a dog nearby will turn dogs hostile, so that was usually assumed to be the case when there was no other obvious reason for dogs turning hostile.

I tested that too. There's a Dog in the poor sector that payed no attention when I killed a Wolf right next to him. Maybe while attacking the Wolf some people have clicked on a Dog by mistake or by using Crtrl, possiblly hit it with a stray arrow while the Wolf was moving.

Well, I stand corrected. I never tested the dog/wolf connection because several people reported this, and it seemed reasonable.

It may also be that the dog wasn't watching what I was doing. It would be hard to discover for certain.

Just checked. Indeed I cannot attack it. I even killed it by casting Poison Cloud nearby without effecting the Dogs. Perhaps I shot it with a stray arrow that other time and it registered the attack.
