Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games Announce
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to Ship March 20

Quintessential RPG for the Next Generation Coming to Xbox 360 and PC

Rockville, MD - March 2, 2006 - Bethesda Softworks® and 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that the highly-anticipated role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls® IV: Oblivion™ has gone to gold master and will be available in stores in North America and Europe during the week of March 20. Oblivion will be available for Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC in both regular and collector's editions.

"Our most ambitious project ever is finally done," said Todd Howard, executive producer of Oblivion. "We're excited to get the game into everyone's hands and let them experience it for themselves. We hope they enjoy it. I think it's our best game yet."

Oblivion is an epic, open-ended single-player RPG for the next generation providing gamers with one of the most life-like gaming experiences to date. The powerful combination of unprecedented graphics and freeform gameplay allows gamers to unravel the main quest or explore the vast world at their own pace. Oblivion is the fourth chapter in the award-winning Elder Scrolls series that includes Morrowind® (2002 RPG of the year - Computer Gaming World), Daggerfall™ (1996 RPG of the year -- PC Gamer), and Arena (1994 RPG of the year - Computer Player).

"Oblivion will set the new standard for next generation gaming and change the way role-playing games are viewed forever," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. "We set very high goals and ensure they are reached because that is what our fans deserve and have come to expect from Bethesda Softworks. We are very proud of our team's accomplishments with respect to Oblivion."

Oblivion has already garnered numerous awards and an impressive collection of accolades, including being voted "RPG of Show" in 2005 by the Best of E3 Game Critics Awards. Oblivion ranks as one of the "Most Anticipated Games of 2006" according to PC Gamer, GameSpy, IGN, and Yahoo Games among many others, and has been featured on nearly thirty magazine covers worldwide.

"Oblivion is one of the most anticipated video games of 2006 and its release will be a milestone for the Xbox 360 and PC," said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director, 2K Games. "A shining example of next-generation role-playing, Oblivion breaks new ground in the genre with unparalleled graphics, revolutionary gameplay and an expansive RPG world."

Oblivion for Xbox 360 and PC, co-published by Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games, has been rated "T" for Teen by the ESRB.

After playing nothing but WoW for 15 months, I am ready to try something new.
I tried Morrowind once for a few hours and got frustrated--I was stumbling around in the dark with no idea where to go. The combat wasn't great either iirc. Did I miss something? Would I like Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?

I just hope it won't *only* run on xp ... because I don't plan to buy xp.

Sigh... Will someone answer my question? Wait! I got it! That's what the game is about! Your quest(ions)s just float out there and never really do get answered ordone, because, well, there's just so much to say and do that you never really get around to... But wait am I reading too much into this? It could be that the question is answered by the game itself. Of course it is, but I'd rather not buy it if I won't like it--so just tell me. I promise not to tell the authorities that you told me--really. Of course you can't tell me about Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion because you haven't played it--so answer with reference to Morrowind.

Thank you.

I didn't last that long (maybe a couple hours). If I'm thinking of the right game, the readme file for the demo said it was in first person because that was so much more realistic, then with the combat system you held the right mouse button down to attack, and the longer you held the button, the harder you would hit.

Anyway, in Oblivion you can switch between 1st and 3rd person views, so I'll check it out if they release a demo that will run on Windows 98, or if it is still available some year when I build a new computer.
Actually, I might have to upgrade for DD2, depending on its requirements, so Oblivion should still be around (though I'll still want to check out a demo).

It's going to be great to finally play this game. But will my computer be able to take it?

*a mysterious hole opens in the great internet and thus I appear*
Heh great to see everyone, seems like we are ageing together with this forum as time goes on

I’ve waited a long time too
Don’t worry im going to get it too, so if the game can't work without a patch, you won't be alone in the nightmare

The thing is

Recently I’ve been able to play the trial version of ""WoW"" (World of Warcraft)
and it was for 10 days with limits on xp cap at level 20 and no trading and mailing with only being allowed to carry 10 gold

I've gotten bored of it to be honest, it wasn't as bad as I thought though(I was sort of biased in the beginning) but after playing for a while things start to get to you, little things then little things start to turn into big things, then things become boring. I guess im all about the experience, I took what I enjoyed during my time from ""WoW"" trial version and packed my bags and left looking for something else to experience

in related news, a friend called and brought to my attention that ""Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach"" is going to be in retail stores today, well I’ve read the PDF manual and looked at some screen shots, looks interesting enough but I don't have a sure gut feeling like I have with ""Oblivion""

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything bad or just things that bother them about the game

From what I gather from what I read, they will use the 3.5 rule set and let you only go up to level 10, but it looks nicer then ""WoW"“ and I like the game mechanics

Anyways back to ""Oblivion""
Only worry I have is that, the game won't support my dual core processor. Some games won't let me choose to use one 1 part of the processor and makes me use both.

well i don't know if Oblivion doesn't support them, no big deal i guess. I like to run more then 1 program at once though

for example
diablo II
& Gothic II

didn't support dual processors so i had to play those games without any other major program running

you can change your dual processor settings by
(XP)
ctrl + Alt + Delete
under the processes tab
right click on a process and choose set Affinity
i have check boxes for CPU 0 & CPU 1

Well, if you follow the main storyline you should not encounter that, but if you like to explore a lot (like me) then this probably will hapen a lot. i started the game over and over like a hundred times but never really finished the main story line, i just get bored of all those freakin npc's screaming at my: you n'wah and stuff like that. I once even slayed all the people in balmora, seyda neen, Peligiad and half of vivec. I need to admit it was fun fighting vivec, he was busy fighting all my summons while i was firing fireballs at him.

From the trailers i seen Oblivion looks GREAT, their will be booby-traps and moving shadows, and you can actually see your arrows hitting things, thats just cool!

Didn't think magic worked that well in Morrowind. You couldn't really do something with it in the beginning, and you have to use it in order to get better at it. Not a fun combo, those two...
But then again, I only got to like the second city before I quit. Mainlly because it didn't seem to be a main story (of any quality at least), plus the characterinteraction... I don't like talking ABOUT things, I want to know exactlly what I'm saying.

I played the beta quite intensive for a while and i must say i really liked it for that time. I ddint get any higher then lvl 6 (each lvl is divived in 5 kinda sub lvls>>wich can be pretty useless and sometimes a bit helpfull )

If you have the money to just buy and try games i should definatly try it. I dont have that money, so i mostly play betas and cracked games.
