Personally, I don't like classes. Why does everyone want to try to put a character into a class at all ?

To me, it's simply several ways I can follow or not.

i think that the div-system is perfect, as there are no limitations in wich skills you can learn. But sometimes i like to play a certain type of class, but with the div-system that isnt a problem.(altough in some other games it is)

That is one of the many things I like about Divine Divinity. Although I chose a female Survivor at the beginning of the game, I can choose whatever skills I want and become a perfect blend of the three "classes" that are available at the start. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

In the early points of the game, a warrior with a mace =) The mace weapon skill is abominably overpowered. Just find the mace in the third(or fourth?) level of the catacombs(using the quick save & quick load trick for good dura), and you'll wipe through most stuff with ease for quite a while. There aren't any really strong maces ingame though =( In general I think warrior is strongest.

There really is hardly any difference between classes. Each has a special ability, a starting skill, and a different distribution of stat points. Other than that, it's all looks. I tend to go with the survivor for the sneaking ability. But the warrior's spin attack is good when you get surrounded. The mage's teleportation ability isn't all that useful though. I always end up teleporting into the middle of a group of enemies.

Some people use the mage's swap places skill to move NPCs out of their shops or homes, to be able to loot freely. This doesn't work with the mage Kistandalius in Ars Magicana, but most NPCs can not catch you stealing if they can not see you.
Of limited value, this skill can also be used to bypass the guards in the dwarven halls who take your stuff before seeing the king, so you don't end up with a rearranged inventory when you get everything back (just getting rid of excess stuff before entering will limit the amount you may have to rearrange after leaving).

differences between classes (minor spoilers)

Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version) (contains much of the information in the above topic)
