There were 2 tricks for duplicating that I used. And yes, I have my game patched and they still worked. However the negative number trick appears to have been fixed as my game wouldn't let me click the check mark.
The 2 tricks I used.
Both start out the same way. Save game. Open inventory. Drag item from inventory. While item is still attached to the cursor press L to open the load window. Release item over the load window. The item will remain stuck to the cursor.
Trick one: Select a game to load and accept. The item you were dragging will appear in your inventory in the game you loaded. If you loaded the game you just saved you'll have twice as many as you were dragging. If you loaded a different save this allows you to transport items from one to another. Be aware that armor and weapons won't have stats if you didn't have that item previously in that save because of the items.000 file.
Trick two: Drag the cursor off the load window and onto the inventory window. You'll hear it drop. You'll also notice you can no longer click on anything. Press Esc three times. The first closes the load window, the second takes you to the main menu screen, the third resumes your game. The game will be paused from opening the load window. When you unpause the game the items appear will in your inventory. This doesn't involve loading in anyway so you can't transport items from one save to another but it also mean you don't have to wait for your save to load and is the quicker method if you were just going to duplicate items in the same save.

You're supposed to kill 4 frogs. After you do that the followers will huddle around the statue. Killing the frogs opens a portal, I think this is the light they want you to lead them to.
