I don't know about re-installing, but a fair number of people have posted trying to find where the non-existent CD key is. Starforce's error message isn't very clear, and the disk labeling on the North American release doesn't help.
Giving the ingredients to the alchemist leads pretty much to the end of the act. You have an opportunity to loot and or finish up stuff outside the village, but will not be able to complete any quests in the imp village. I would recommend waiting until you have finished everything else you can before helping the alchemist.
If your archer can take a couple hits from a strong opponent without dying, I'd stop boosting constitution to concentrate on survival and speed for a bit. Boosting Reload Time improves your speed; I maxed that for my archer, put 3 or 4 points into Point Blank and one point into Accuracy. If you are using a bow rather than a crossbow, I'd also concentrate more on agility than strength.
I have not played a mage, but I would think at least a moderate speed would help. Of course everything depends partly on what equipment you have found and what your playing style is like. I ran into trouble at the beginning of the game if I neglected speed and survival too much, but others have played high strength/agility melee warriors and not had a problem practically ignoring speed and survival.
[color:"orange"]how to summon a doll?
Once you have a doll, you simply click on it in your inventory to summon or unsummon it. There is one doll in each act. The act 2 doll is in the spider forest. The act 1 doll (the only one that can equip a crossbow) is a reward for helping the poisoned imp after jumping down the pit in the arena (the solution is on the same level). If you have a save at the end of act 1 you can go back and get it, but then you would have to redo the start of act 2. If you missed that doll and don't mind cheating slightly, I could get the
Inventory files from one of my old saves with the act 1 summoning doll.
[color:"orange"]how to sharpen weapons?
After learning the sharpen skill (weapons officer in drill grounds of act 1, the smith in act 3 or Brian in the BF of any act), give the weapon to be sharpened to the character who learned the skill, then right click on the weapon and select Sharpen from the menu. Not all types of weapons can be sharpened (swords and frying pans (IIRC) can, crossbows can not). Save first, in case you boost the agility requirements too much.
[color:"orange"]how to set a trap?
I collected trap material, but never got around to trying out traps. I assume after selecting the appropriate trap skill as your character's secondary skill, you would just need to right click on the ground where you want the trap.
