[color:"orange"]The old system of copy protections that make us pull out our hair... or to try a newish system that has proven much less hassles...
I haven't had many hassles with the usual copy protectection. I have seen very serious flaws with Half-Life 2. Missing textures, poor or no customer service, have to create a new account and pay for the game again if you lose your password. It's problems like these that encourage piracy by people that would otherwise buy the game because the ligit copy has too many hassles. I will never pay for anything that requires an internet conection just to install it or needs to ask for permission to run the game.

[color:"orange"]WHat if you broke your cd or dvd... ?
That's why you make an ISO and load the disc from a virtual drive. That way you can keep the disc in a jewel case in your closet where it's safe.

[color:"orange"]what happens if a company goes bust? Its server goes offline, and every single one of the games you have by that company are completely unusable forever thereafter because the internet checking system will be unable to connect to anything.
Not good for the old school nastalgia gamers. My life would be be meaningless, well more so, if this technology existed 15 years ago and now I couldn't play my favorite Inerplay or Microprose games.

To me, the best system are still code wheels and even more : goodies you can't copy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

One of my very first games was a Blues Brothers Jump & Run, which had included cheap, plastic, dark glasses in the box. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Or cloth maps : So cool everybody would want one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

When you find a big kettle of crazy, it's best not to stir it.

I wish there was a way of pleasing everyone... but alas....

someone mentioned that its easy to break the internet auth.... i havnt found 1 crack for guildwars that worked yet...(and i didnt use steam as an example... i think steam is a joke) There are keygens... but the moment you try to use the code, it tells you that the key is not registered to you. And yea there would be fake -servers out.... giving you none of the benefits to play with friends over the net...

I suppose the other option would be to get a system that works like Microsoft (and i know that its crack-able) with an activation... But yet again, that will require internet(at least once) or at least a phone call to larian....

I do however love the idea of having a game server, where friends can play networked together across the globe in either co-op or against each other....

Strictly single player. If it would encourage more games to be largely multiplayer with little or no attention to single that's even more of a deterrent for me.

In a perfect world people wouldn't pirate games and copy protection would be pointless. Or games you want would spontaneously generate themselves on your computer desk for free.
