I just got a broadband connection in (whoo-hoo) and so I can finally relax at home and smurf the net...I mean surf!!

So what games are worth playing that DON'T require a subscription fee per month, as homey don't play no subscription fee lark no-sir-ee?

Call of Duty 2 is the only one I play at the mo, but need a good RPG!

No question about it "Neverwinter Nights" on the Alboria "The Bottled World"
you can find it at pw action under Alboria,
we got persistent quests, subraces, crafting you can become a full fledged AD&D Lich (v3.5), we have Battle grounds where the Light and shadow factions can battle it out (a la WOW) and there are more than 500 area's to explore and or conquer.

Plowy if you get there sometime like whatever time it says on the header of this post I am likely to be there, if not yell out for Mea Culpa and many will help you get your feet (wet maybe while hunting sharks under water ofcourse <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> )on the ground! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

WoW...meh, its ok, quest here quest there...for five months until you hit level 60 then hit the endgame instances over and over and over to get uber loot...pretty boring IMO..

Dark and Light, havent actually played this one (dont think I will for a while either) It had potential, huge world, many races and classes, and tons of character equipment slots, poor showing from what I have heard thus far, it sounds like they put the game out before it was ready.

D&D Online, also havent played it...but it is all about finding friends and allies and questing together, very limited PvP (if any at all)

Roma-Victor, psuedo reality, based on the timeframe where Rome was at the height of its power, you can be a roman or a freeman, Romans get free stuff, equipment etc but have to do what they are told by a PC that works for the company and acts as emperor...rediculous character customization, can build towns and boats etc. looks very cool...oh and if you get caught by the Romans theiving or what have you your character gets crucified and people can come by and heckle you

Guildwars: Fantastic Graphics, decently elaborate skill set, only 20 levels so you can max out fast (there is plenty more to do after 20. No worries about random PvP...only when you want to do you get PvP(enter an instance)

Shadowbane is now free, I dont know if anyone is actually still playing it but about 3 months ago they dropped the fee so you can download it and play.

there are several decent free mmorpg, all of them have flaws, lag, lack of content. The best one I've come accross is http://www.silkroadonline.net/ altho it began to grow to crowded and laggy.

Guild wars sounds good too, my brother plays it as well...

I should warn you GW is very PVP oriented, don't get factions as there is even less storyline in that one.

If you want a more Role playish game, I suggest you try Ashen Empires, although it's P2P, graphics aren't also as good as the latest games, but imo they all suck. ~AE~

Oh and if you do play, go on Legends, there's no PvP, but very few faggots.

I've tried Neverwinter Nights for a few minutes...

I didn't really know where to start. The first server I went to allowed my character to just jump from level 1 to 30.

Is that normal? What's the point of playing then!

Nope it is not normal, usually you strat from lvl 1, looks like you found a Uber Power Server ... not nice (nasty memories of diablo 1 on Battlenet)but keep looking if you dont like Alboria thats okay there are many fine servers available including Lost Souls Aventia etc etc or just have a look at the ping (lower= better for you)I have been playing on a server for about 2-3 years now to the point where the managing ppl decided I knew too much and made me a DM (reluctantly I must admit)however with all the new stuff coming out from the CEP team it just gets better and better, Oh btw you will need for most servers SOU HotU and CEP 1.52 if not 1.53 installed on your PC <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Heck I just d/l the spellforce 2 demo and that was something like 548 Mb took about 2 hours <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It's broadband...in the 'broad' sense of the word!! It's wireless so can fluctuate a lot in speeds. But it's fast enough. Generally 130kbps download.


Some higher power is keeping me from getting onto your server!

After installing the whole 145 meg pack, which balloons out to over 700megs, it now says I don't have some module or some such installed when I try to enter the server.

Not at home right now, so can't give you the error word for word yet!
