Check the number of files in the saved game folder (in '
..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames'). There may be a quicksave folder with a .tmp extension, depending on when during the save process the game crashed. If you have been to the Dark Forest the save folder should contain 32 files, otherwise 27. Missing files may be replaceable, but you might have to just reload your previous save.
If you are relying a lot on quicksaves, you may want to increase the number kept, if you have not done so already (this requires that the
patch be installed, or that you have a version of the game already updated, such as the DVD release).
In the '
Divine Divinity' folder, open the '
config.lcl' file in a text editor (such as Notepad) and add the line "[color:"orange"]MaxQuickSaveAmount #[/color]", where '#' is the maximum number of quicksaves you want (max 99). If you add this at the end of the file, hit the Enter key before saving. The game expects the last line to be blank, so doesn't recognize the change if you just add it there and save.
