Pegasus is actually a singular creature in Greek myth, the last of a herd holy to (I think) Zeus who were wiped out in some fashion I don't now recall. Perseus rode him to rescue Andromeda from the Kraken.
That said, the common use of 'Pegasus' now denotes any winged horse. It's become a general term rather than a specific name.
