Being able to turn into a dragon would be a good reason to bring back the Dragon's Set I saw in Divine .
As for monsters, I agree that there should be some original stuff... hmmm...
Well, I won't be able to be too helpful with that right now , but maybe if there needs to be a demonic type monster, keep in mind the idea of making something that doesn't have any basis of what we've already seen:
That is, go all out. A demon's shape doesn't need animal or humanoid basis. Make it some sort of freak, something that makes the player cringe at the sight of... I dunno...
As for giant monsters, I've got an idea from a book I read:
A gigantic worm-like creature that lives in dark caves/tunnels, with hundreds of blind eyes in random patches on its body, a round mouth of rows of razor sharp teeth, open oozing sores all over its body... ewww
I got this idea from Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, though I forget which book its from... the sixth?
Besides all these freakish ideas, there should also be something somewhat familiar: besides traditional monsters, we could also include the good ole hostile animals (of course).
I really don't have any good non-crazy sounding ideas, I'll leave that to everyone else.
