From what I've heard Gothic 3's biggest problems was that it's beta in the box, and that they still havn't fixed that...

You haven't noticed that they had already poroduced some patches ?

But they also say that they'll still have a *lot* of work to do.

A kind of poll here in Germany had the result of Gothic being elected by German readers as the best and the worst game of 2006 at the same time.

Yeah, I know they've released patches. But from what I've heard it's still buggy, and that's what I mean.

When they get it done, I think it will be a good game though (havn't played it so I'm not really fit to talk about it, other than rumorwise <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />).

I had more bugs in NWN2 then in Gothic3. Played through both of them.

It seems to me that when games cater too much to casual gamers, the games get "dumbed-down". The strongest example would be the Elder Scrolls series. Morrowind was a fantastic game for hard-core gamers and casual gamers alike... without compromising gameplay. However, with Oblivion, they catered to casual RPG gamers a lot more, and the result was an over-simplified game world.

You can't please everyone. I too am a big DD fan, but I find Morrowind to be inferior to Oblivion. I will list a few reasons--not to start a Morrowind vs. Oblivion discussion, but to highlight some of the features that make a good game.

Graphics: The graphics in Oblivion are superior.

Stability: In spite of my computer being able to run Oblivion with no trouble, Morrowind crashed it numerous times and even caused my machine to reboot.

Inventory Window: The one in Morrowind was very cumbersome.

Alchemy: Alchemy is so cumbersome to use in Morrowind that I totally abandoned its use.

Combat: Switching between the use of magic and melee was a pain in MW; it was well done in Oblivion.

Map: I spent boring hours in MW searching for stuff. This did not enhance my experience--it detracted from it.
Both games could have benefited from a more rich outdoor experience. At least Oblivion's was easier to get around in.

The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can they suffer?

The problem for most people with G3, is that it's NOT Oblivion!! They can't handle the fact that you don't just kill everything that moves' actions have REAL consequences, and you actually have to work hard to discover what to do and where to go!!

The main problem with BD, was the tedious nature of so much of it, especially the Battlefields- SO repetative!!!!!

If God said it, then that settles it!!

I have read about an review where the reviewer actually did NOT realize that Orcs were not simple cannon-fodder, but instead a joinable faction !

(Discussion somewhere at RPGWatch, I think it was about the look back into 2006 by RPGCodex.)
