Da wir gerade beim Thema sind : Ich habe heute ein kleines Review einer neuen Mike Oldfield DVD geschrieben - allerdings in Englisch (haupts�chlich f�r jemandem in einem anderen Forum).

Yesterday I bought and watched / listened to a part of the above mentioned DVD ("Live at Montreux").

To me, it's really great stuff ! I've already written that live material of Mike Oldfield is quite rare, but this performance in particular is something i like very much, because it's partly music from the first albums by him I got back then in the 80s.

The Singing of Taurus I on the DVD (performed by Maggie Reilly) is basically the same tune as the "Deep Deep Sound" from Taurus II, and that's what surprised me most. I had often the feeling I wasn't listening to Taurus I but to Taurus II instead ! And that 1981 ! (Taurus II came out 1982 on the album "Five Miles Out".)

Regarding the fact that this is quite old, the picture is astonishingly good (at least for my own taste), only the very beginning looks a little bit blurred.

I bought it for 10 Euros in an electronics chain shop, and to me as a fan it's worth every cent !

It's a dual layer DVD, with dts digital surround sound, pcm stereo or 5.1 surround sound. It has English menu texts (tiny menu) and it's PAL with regon code 0, it seems to me. The package says it's about 105 Minutes long, and the whole thing was released by Eagle Rock, who seem to specialize in such things nowadays.

I know Eagle Rock from a few Yes remasters, and they also released the "Symphonic Live" DVD by Yes. They seem to really dig in such niches like rare concert DVDs and I think they make it quite good !



In deutscher K�rze : Dies ist eine von Eagle Rock - die sich neuerdings auf solche Sachen mit recht gutem Erfolg zu spezialisieren scheinen - aufgelegte DVD eines Konzerts von 1981 vom Montreux Jazz Festival (vermutlich mit den auch international bekannten [selbst Miles Davis war da] bekannten Leverkusener Jazztagen zu vergleichen).

Der Gesang von Maggie Reilly des St�ckes "Taurus I" (Taurus = Stier = Sternzeichen von Mike Oldfield, habe ich mir sagen lassen) ist im Grunde die gleiche Melodie wie das Teilst�ck "Deep Deep Sound" aus Taurus II. So habe ich mehrfach das Gef�hl gehabt, Taurus 2 statt 1 zu h�ren ! Das Besondere daran ist, da� Taurus 2 erst 1982, alsop ein Jahr nach diesem Konzert, auf der LP "Five Miles Out" herauskam.

Die Band besteht aus Mike Oldfield selbst, haupts�chlich mit der Gitarre, aber auch Mandoline, Keyboard und Vocoder, Tim Cross an Keyboards und auch Vocoder, Rick Fenn als Bass & Gitarre, Morris Pert als Percussionist, und Mike Frye an den Drums. Und nat�rlich Maggie Reilly als - in meinen Ohren jedenfalls - leicht jazzig klingende S�ngerin.

F�r jeden Oldfield-Fan ist das auf jeden Fall ein "Must have" (Kaufbefehl !), vor allem, da Live-Material von ihm generell eine sehr rare Sache ist !

Die H�lle in Silber gehalten finde ich recht kitschig, soll aber angeblich auf tats�chlichen Plakaten des Festivals basieren.


F�r mich war diese DVD, die ich f�r 9.99 bekommen habe, jeden einzelnen Cent wert ! Und das, obwohl ich erst einen Teil davon gesehen und geh�rt habe !
