The dolphins may be competing for the same fish that the fishing boat was going after, and getting tangled in the nets slows down the fishing, which costs them money. It is not unreasonable for a cruel, vindictive person to kill the dolphins rather than take the time to try to free them.

With fur, however, it is much harder to understand how even a sadist would operate in a manner that jeopardizes their own livelihood. There are probably some in the fur industry that trap, farm or kill in an inhumane way, but I would want more than a highly edited video clip (especially from PETA) as proof that skinning animals alive is anything more than an aberration.

These following link is not from PETA, but from Heather Mills
I had them posted a few months back, in the "strangely, funny or interesting websites" topic. I guess no one saw them back then.

The first I could have easily combined; for the second, it didn't seem appropriate, given the topics.

From a quick look at the website, she does not appear to be either a nut or a zealot. The pdf file about the China fur trade (couldn't view the videos) appears reasonable, and has references (though I didn't check any) rather than rhetoric.

Apparently the fur industry is doing a lot weaving and mixed fabric types now, so nicks and cuts in the pelts are not that big a deal (a couple decades ago even a small cut could halve the value of a pelt). Of course China is also going for volume, rather than quality.
With non-existent animal abuse laws in China (and few human rights) the living conditions of the animals on fur farms is not terribly surprising, though it is extremely short sighted (between the living conditions and inbreeding, they have to keep importing new foxes to keep the fur quality at acceptable levels).

It is still much easier to skin a dead animal than a live one. However, with no laws, poor (if any) training and workers who just do not care about quality or the animals, apparently some fraction of the crude attempts at killing are going to fail, leaving some animals knocked out or stunned.

Indeed Dragh, you can see my dog on the adoption page of that website "Ter Adoptie" His name is now Tonino, he's white and looks a bit scared.

On may 26th a whole bunch of Greyhounds will arrive from Ireland. I can't wait to see the pics of the adoptions!!
