Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) General Ring Bell of Summoning, go to black screen

After I ring the bell of summoning, and the cutscene plays out and everyone dies, I end up north of that area. I have the map and can access my inventory, but the screen showing my location is black and I can't move. I've tried reloading to several different saved games but it always does it. Any suggestions?

Put the play CD in an optical drive, and hit the gong again. The no-CD hack can not handle the videos played during the blessing ceremony. If it still doesn't work, a couple people reported having to restore the original div.exe program file; re-install the patch (or game) if you didn't make a backup.

With the patch installed (or an already updated re-release game version) there is a configuration file edit to skip the intro videos (see here). With this you will not need the play CD, except for the blessing ceremony and end game videos.

Stupid no cd patch. Fortunately I hadn't lost the cd yet, so it's all good.

Actually, the configuration file edit (described here) is easier than using the hacked executable, and will do the same thing. Without the CD you will not be able to get past the blessing ceremony, though the end of the game is pretty much straight hack and slash, so that may not be a big deal.

In any case, your friend should replace the CD (the game is still available from Amazon, eBay, etc, and there was a DVD version released in Australia about a year or so ago).
