Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) Help/Tips/Tricks Talked to Dr. Elrath Prior to Quest

While bludering around the market a long time ago I walked into his house and chatted with him. Now I need to speak with him regarding his quest (or at least get in there again) and am having some difficulty. I've spoken with the owner of the Blue Boar, gone to Elrath's house in the Market and he's of course not there now. I have a total of +4 Lockpick, but can't quite even see where the door should be to pick. I also have found from scouting the forums the location of a key to his house. Should I try it instead? I seemed to have bugged the quest slightly by speaking to him when I first got to the area and don't want to proceed further until I check with you guys. Thanks.

You didn't break the quest any. Had you waited until now to talk to him, he simply would have claimed to have lost the key and kick you out of the house, leaving you in the same situation you are in now. To use the key on the door (or just to see doors on the northern sides of houses) hold the alt key down (waving the mouse cursor around should also find it, though slower). IIRC you can Lockpick the door before you confront him a final time (after which it gets sealed), but that will leave the key in your inventory.
