When you dropped the orbs, did you get a sound effect and have them raise up slightly? If not, the orbs may have been a little off the pentagrams. Try picking the orbs up again (once placed in the pentagrams I don't think you can move them).
Check your resistances, and make sure they are not negative. If you are having problems with bees, you probably ran into the resistance bug (unequipping an item with a Magic Barrier skill bonus without otherwise knowing that skill). In that case, installing the
patch will automatically fix your resistances.
Some re-release versions of the game may already be updated to the latest 1.0034A version, as shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu, so would not need to be patched. The DVD version is already updated, and the patch (designed for the CD version) should not be installed.
