For the music, there is also a Divine Divinity Music Extractor (72KB) by BrainBox, to extract the soundtrack from the installed game files (in ogg format).

DD music

Both the music and sound effects are located in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\dat\sound.cmp' file; presumably environmental sounds like the tavern background noise would also be included. The music is in Ogg format and starts with the text string 'OggS', while the sound effects are in wave format, and start with 'RIFF' then a couple other characters, followed by 'WAVE'.
AFAIK nobody has made a sound effects extractor, so you would have to manually save each wav section (from each 'RIFF' term to 'Sound Forge 4.5 ' [note the zero byte at the end], just before the next 'RIFF' term) until you found the right one.
There should be a way to automate this... I'll see if I can find something to process binary files.

You would need to use a hex editor to manually extract the wave files from the sound.cmp. In principle, it is similar to editing a text file in a word processor, and saving individual paragraphs to new files.

I found a program (Parse-O-Matic Free Edition) that may be able to extract all the wave files, but I have not had time to look at the manual to see if learning enough of its scripting language to do this would be faster than manually doing it.

You would have to download a hex editor program to edit binary files. I may have time later today or tomorrow to take a look at the other program I mentioned, which could make things easier than learning how to use a hex editor.

Actually, since you want a specific sound, you could use a sound editor (such as Audacity) to record it. In DD temporarily set the music, sound effects and voice volumes to zero, then switch to Audacity and start recording 'what you hear', then switch back to DD and walk into a tavern. When you have enough of the ambient crowd noise, you can exit the game, stop the recording, trim the recorded sounds to just what you want and save it. If alt-tabbing out of the game and back causes problems for you, you can start Audacity recording first, then start the game, change volume levels, and load an appropriate save.

hey thanks i was able to record the audio with that program, sadly the recording quality is not as good as i expected (i have no sound card) but its ok in the end. Having all the ambiental effect would be the best, so i will wait for u to see wich program is the best for this stuff and in the mean time i have to thank you for your great help, thank you very much man! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bday_jump.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
