There is a file verification procedure in the troubleshooting topic above. Crashing when accessing mage character data most likely means there is some corrupt data in the game files. The character data for the male wizard is on install disk 2, while the female wizard data is on the play CD, so whichever one you tried that crashed, there is a good chance the other will be ok (unless of course you have already tried both and had them crash).
Have you ever actually gone up a level, where there was a sound effect and the skill and stat window icons changed to red arrows, or did you just suddenly arrive at level 122?
The usual character level range at the end of the game is from the mid forties to low fifties. Unless you cheated to level up, you may have ran into a bug with an experience bomb that gave you a much greater bonus that it should have.
History of the mysterious "Experience Bomb".Your lack of stat points to distribute is probably due to whatever problem boosted your level so high, or it could be related to possible corrupt files (assuming there were any in addition to the likely corrupt mage character data).
If you start a new character, is it at level 1?
A clean re-install of the game may help with the mage issue (see the troubleshooting topic). If there were unreported errors during install, a different optical drive (if you have more than one) may be better able to read the CDs. Make sure you shut down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before installing the game, etc.
