Hey, the game looks quite nice. I wonder what it's going to be like? I bet it'll be even better than DD.

I also hope I won't get too giddy from playing it as I've always had motion sickness from many 3d games.

I've also had problems with some first person perspective games, especially if the camera can move fast (ie if you need to scan an area for enemy) or independently of the character (move one way while looking another). Actually, I don't really like the first person perspective to start with (though over-the-shoulder is usually ok), so would prefer it remains third person (like DD/BD). Depending how the game is designed, the camera perspective could be selectable (the Larians have not said anything about this, and the released screenshots do not necessarily indicate the game's perspective).

hi raito

welcome to larian. we're glad to have you join us.

true the new game is looking really good. i don't have the problem with that you described, but i hope it doesn't affect you when you play.

it is going to be great, and it would be awful if you got sick playing it. kinda yucky.

To all: Thank you, everyone for the welcome!

To Raze and Shantara:
As long as the camera only swings a little, I'm fine with it. It's the camera system especially in games which use physics that really makes me spin and really sick for the rest of the day and possibly the next. Yeah, I hope the camera view will be like in Divine Divinity.

And I also hope that they don't go for "realistic" but rather, stylistic sort of graphics. I'm getting sick of all those games where the aim is to make the water shine as much as possible. It was nice once but no longer. Though since this is Larian studios which brought us DD, I'm confident that the game will be fun.

Btw, I've tried Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest, etc. and you know, no matter how pretty the graphics were or how nice the music was, I felt the gameplay really sucked. The reason why DD was so fun was 'cos you had both a story and combat to alternate between. Plus, the combat was great!

My only request to Larian would be:
Please, any kind of protection other than Starforce would be awesome. Starforce just wrecks havoc with your computer and forces you to take really drastic measures to get it off your pc. smirk Oh well, then again, it's your call.

I don't think StarForce is something Larian is considering. Bear in mind that they patched to remove all StarForce calls so that one could remove StarForce without losing the ability to play .

Ooh that's great news, indeed. 'Cos I used to recall running into plenty of nasty system crashes and other issues after playing a game with Starforce.

i was never a fan of starforce either. it is the reason i would never play some games. i didn't want it on my computer because of the horror stories that i heard.

i was very happy to hear that larian removed it from beyond divinity. to me it says alot for the larian people (they care about their players)

Ahh, I know what ya mean. Furthermore, the so-called "Starforce Removal Tool" doesn't always work. So, it's a nightmare trying to uninstall it.

That's good.

Hmmm, anyways, I hope they've the same composers on the team for this rpg. 'Cos I've been completely spoilt by their music. :P

Btw, which anime/manga/game is your signature from? She looks really cute.

A few more things I'd like to see improved in the next game:

- better voice-acting

Sure, the voices in DD sounded nice, generally but they were mainly incapable of expressing emotions. When they tried to evoke emotions, they sounded either flat or over-acted.

- better control over summoned creatures

I'd love to be able to click on a summoned creature and order it to attack a particular monster. In DD, sometimes the summoned creatures would just stand there or wander off and you'd need to make them notice the monsters in order to start attacking.

- less repetitive music

Oh, I loved the music in DD but I wish it would be less repetitive. Ah well, then again, if there're budget constraints, that's fine with me.

yeah, less repetitive music. i could sure go for that.

one reason i keep the music option turned off or way down if i can. so many times game music is very repetitive (not just dd), and i don't really understand why.

Well in the case of DD, there is a couple hours worth of music for a 50-100 hour game. Adding a few songs from Kirill and Larian's websites (DD music) I burnt 2 80 minute CDs. I don't know how much money musicians usually make per CD, but there is a limit to how much music can be produced for a minor (though important) part of a game.

That said, more music would be better, as long as it is good (the only music in DD that I didn't care for were the 2 tavern songs).

I suspect a lot of the limits on the amount of music are due to space on the CD/DVD and budgetary considerations. Music can make for a nice background, but it's far from essential. As such, it probably has a very low priority order for most games.

Well, probably 'cos it costs a lot of money to pay for equipment, software, sound fonts, etc. Therefore, many game companies end up skimping a little here and there.

Cool, thank you for the links!

Hmmm... in Arcanum, it was even worse, I think. There was that violin piece which was really nice but whose wailing drove me up the wall, after a few hours. I think that game had only a few music pieces 'cos of budget constraints.

Yeah, I liked most of the music except for that "dum dee dee" tavern song. It sounded too cheesy. I especially liked the harp and violin in the Verdistis song.

Is it? For me, it's very essential 'cos I very much enjoy good music. Then again, it's better if the game company creates a few good tracks rather than 30 lousy songs. I mean, Larian could've created 60 awful songs like "classical remixed with really bad techno".

And I agree about the constraints. Ah well...

oops, i think i got misunderstood about what i was referring to when i said repetitive music. i didn't mean the same music being used several times during the game. i meant how the music itself keeps repeating the same notes and sound repeatedly.

game music isn't that important to me, and i love the option of being able to turn it off or way down.

Errr, actually, I meant both. It gets really repetitive and sometimes, drives me nuts 'cos it really has no variant at all.

Haha... same here. Sometimes, if the music isn't to my taste, I like to turn it off but if I can't, I simply mute the speakers instead.

yay, we both agree.

that is what i meant when i said i didn't understand too. i know there is only so much money they can spend on game music, but it looks like they could vary what music they do record for the game.

seems like we are on the same wave length about making the music be silent one way or the other.

Yeah, well, it depends on factors like time, resources, ability of composer, etc.
