So recently we had some water damage downstairs, so I've moved my computer upstairs. Everything works fine, except the sound.. It's quite weird.

I've got a SB Audigy 2, as well as an MSI nforce4 motherboard.

The speakers are plugged in right, and I tried it with another pair as well. The really weird thing, though, is that in my MSI Sound Manager, if I tell it to auto-test I can hear the sound come out of the correct speakers.

Thanks for the help.

My first thought is a Control Panel setting has changed. What options do you have in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio, Sound playback, Default device and what is selected? By the way, I'm assuming you're using Windows XP. Vista might be the same.

Sounds like the sound card has gone belly-up then. Just 'cos the sound card is detected and the drivers work fine, doesn't mean it's still functioning.

Did you try downloading a linux livecd to test on your computer(playing some songs, etc.)? That way, you could see if the sound card is broken. You simply download the livecd, verify md5 checksum(to see if the download is complete), burn at 4x and boot from it. Nothing is installed and you're free to just wander around on the livecd.

Also, maybe reseat your card? Pull it out, and push it back firmly.
