If you do not want to replace the CD (DD is still available from eBay or online stores, at least), you could convince one of your friends what a good game it is, get them to buy it, and then borrow the play CD. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
You could check if there are any computer or game clubs in your area, where you may be able to find someone else with the game.
There is a configuration file edit to skip the intro videos (see
here), which with the latest game version also eliminates the need for the Play CD (most of the time). However, you are correct that this has the same limitation as the no-CD hack (the play CD is still needed for the blessing ceremony and at the end of the game).
