Okay new to the game and need to know the effects of the poticns. I know what heal, stamina and magic do. I am playing as a warrior (because I was told that was easiest to start with). Not sure what to do with the strenght and poison potions. Thanks much!

Strength potions temporarily boost your strength. Poison potions can be used with the Poison Weapon and Skin of Poison skills. I kept health, mana and restoration potions, but just sold poison, stamina and temporary boost potions. Poison can be quit effective, but as a melee warrior I just used the passive Stun skill.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. What do you do with all the gems I am finding? I keep selling them. DO they have another use?

No, they're just useful for selling and/or bartering (i.e don't have enough gold to get something, but put in a few gems and take some gold from the merchant). wink

A couple people spread gems around their home base for ambient lighting at night.

I tended to hang on to gems, and use heavier loot first to trade with, when possible. Gems are light, so you can carry a lot of value without hurting your weight capacity. Gold is weightless, but since merchants have limited gold (except for one: New Money Trick found), I tried to sell off the largest, heaviest stuff first.

I only recently discovered that Shadows potions eat up some mana while you're invisible. It's still worth it though usually. Minor/major/super poisons can be great to use for trading, especially since you can buy a small flask for 10, fill it, and resell it for 100 (or a super for 100 and resell it for 1000). I've found that there's plenty of NPCs and merchants who always give you full price for items (including potions) no matter how much they like you.

Also, if you're facing an enemy that uses devastating magic attacks but not many other attacks (say like something that shoots random elemental spells at you) it's pretty inexpensive to mix up and drink 10-12 minor elixer potions in a row. You're pretty much invunerable to magic attacks, and the effect lasts a pretty long while.

Thanks for the advise. Any ideas on what to do for Sir Richard in the farms lands that thinks he hears something? I want to end this quest. Thanks, Lainee

Check out the nearby farmers' fields. If you explored them before talking to the knight you would not have found what you are looking for; afterwards, it is hard to miss.

Specifically, from the shed the knight is in, there is a farmer's field to the south and east. Adjacent to the southern part of the eastern edge of this field is an orchard, in which you will find the assassin who is after the knight.

If you go to the orchard before meeting Sir Richard, Crawler (the Assassin) just says "what are you doing? Get out!" and you can't do or say anything. After meeting Sir Richard, you have the option of telling Crawler where Sir Richard is hiding, or you can kill him and return to Sir Richard, getting XP for solving the quest.

Wow i never been to a forum with the SHOW button for spoilers before, coolness, I had the same questions with GEMS and Pots, I keep seeing people writing, "making coin is easy", but not for me, I guess I will sell gems and Pots.

Near the start of the game gold can be hard to come by. However, you should be able to loot or find enough low quality items to trade for potions, etc. Once you leave Aleroth and get somewhere with better merchants, you should be able to sell or trade with the high value axes found throughout the catacombs.

I've found a couple elixirs and I've used one but I saw no effect on health or mana. I'm guessing it boosts your stats in some way?
I know in games like Final Fantasy, elixirs were equivalent to restoration potions so I originally thought thats what the elixir was rolleyes

I believe elixirs temporarily boost your resistances. There are also purple potions (different shade than elixirs) and grey which give 20 health and mana; it is better to sell these and use restoration potions.
