could it be that you have to trigger a certain chat option with him or something?
nope just tested it, you HAVE TO complete the escort healers quest(by talking to alix)
if it fails(after you get invitation to the castle?) or if you don't complete it, verlat will not appear when you go to verdistis.surprised this isn't mentioned in ANY walkthrough available online.
