Loot anything that isn't nailed down to trade for potions, etc. You can use meat and bread for minor healing, and chicken for mana.
The easiest way to get the second pyramid is to drop and use the one you have (either manually, or by using the icons on the far right column of the skill menu selector). Save first, but if you have gotten to level 3, at full health you probably will not have too many problems in the room where you end up. I did all the quests in town, and got the second teleporter stone before starting the catacombs.
Once you have the second teleporter stone, you can teleport back to town to sleep, then return to where you left off; leave one teleporter stone near a bed, drop and use the one with you, sleep (or drop off loot, etc), then use the teleporter stone at your base, pick up the one you dropped earlier, and continue exploring.
Did you heal both soldiers in town? You can get a level of Restoration for that. BTW, don't tell either healer you have cured their patient until you have cured them both.
I don't recall the winged skeletons being particularly tough. Once you have the other teleporter stone, you may want to check with George each time you are in town, to see if he has any better equipment for sale (though most equipment I used was dropped or found).
You can leave Aleroth to level up a bit. The areas east, west and north of Aleroth would be easiest; too far south and you will start running into stronger orcs in larger groups.
