Planescape: Torment is probably the best CRPG ever made by a very long way. You might have a bit of trouble finding it, but it's well worth getting if you can.

I really wish Divine Divinity had some sort of editor for it, so you could create your own regions/adventures...

Planescape: Torment is still available on eBay, though it ain't cheap anymore. eek
Amazon.com lists a few marketplace merchants who have the game, though they are more expensive than eBay.

I saw PS:T as a buget version in a shop here recently ... But that's in German language, I guess ...

some good RPGs I've played:

baldur's gate 2 and the expansion (great RP but long and difficult learning curve)
final fantasy III and VII (III has a great story and gameplay is very non-linear but VII is much easier and more mainstream)
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (easily one of the best ever)

PS:T I've never had the chance to play sadly.

Right now, the best RPG easily available is probably The Witcher. Has real depth and story to it, and the choices you make will absolutely affect the way the story plays out on many levels. It's arguably the best RPG since PS:T, in fact. Your actions really DO have consequences...
