Onwards & upwards is better, IMO. Would anyone really just want a total repeat of anything from an older game? I know I wouldn't. Might as well just dig the older game out again.

Now there's this weird image of an Aleroth filled with just Lizard-people in my head silly

I'd like to see some old places again, but new locations are always better IMO. I'd prefer to explore a whole new region instead of having to revisit every location from Divine Divinity, even if they would be in 3D and more beautiful than ever before. Give me some of the old locations(*crosses fingers* Dark Forest, Dark Forest, Dark Forest) plus a lot of new ones and I'd be happy :p

I'll be happy if all the races are in the game (don't forget the Ranaar ). I'd really would love to see "The Council of Six Races and Assorted Magic-Users" again :p.

Dwarven Halls FTW!! (sees grey wizard saying to you(the dragon lord) "You shall not pass")

If anything bad has happend to good old Aleroth I'll call the responsibles and each member of their race with them! (in-game that is, I'm not going to send a car bomb to Oudenaarde)

I fear there might only be ruins, regarding the "news" from Beyond Divinity ...

Goes looking for the book "a history of Rivelon" or references of stormfist castle. But I would really be amazed that races would have become extinct.

Well, if you played Beyond Divinity you might remember one sequence where you're looking for a crystal fragment in Rivellon (you're in the cursed abbey I believe) and a witch mentions how evil paladins had massacred everyone in Aleroth! frown You do get to take revenge on them though (kind of). There was one other instance, too, where you were revisiting the farmlands, and they were all flooded and filled with lizard people. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar locations (and maybe faces) too, but of course, it should be different enough to not feel too 'samey.'

Back to the original topic of the thread, thanks to the new screenies I guess we don't have to worry about it being first person (did we ever, really?) And games like the Witcher have shown that isometric is still viable in a fully 3D world. Speaking of which, the Witcher has made me grudgingly admit that an over-the-shoulder viewpoint with the character controlled with the WASD keys might not be so bad. Of course, in that game you can switch between the isometric view and the over shoulder view. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for isometric with zooming and rotating camera (a la Dungeon Siege) as being an option.

Paladins are humans right? So every human shall die, including me. rpg003

I would have preferred it if Div2 had an isometric view, like Titan Quest or the upcoming Diablo 3 (which not only lends itself better to the RPG game play, but actually looks better too in my opinion). I don`t know if they can keep the same RPG-ish quality of the first game, in a 1st or 3rd person ("over the shoulder") view.

To be honest, the only "3D" (non isometric) RPG I`ve played is Oblivion, which was a bittersweet experience. The whole idea wasn`t a bad one, but the NPCs felt like automatons, and the game lacked personality overall, and wasn`t very fun. Divine Divinity had a unique atmosphere, which was created by the characters, dialogue, music, environment, quests, ambient sounds, art style, ect. I hope they can preserve that while moving to 3D, and not turn into an Oblivion clone. Also, I hope they can make it as big as the original one, and again, not in the way Oblivion is big (I think at least 50% of that game is filled with rocks, trees, rats and dogs).

Interesting info about Aleroth. I never sat down and played beyond divinity because at the time my old system couldn't handle it and now I'd have to buy it used or something.

I'm hoping that alot has changed since the Sword of Lies tale, to make this game fresh. But I'm hoping alot of places are familiar (Stormfist, Cathedral, Farms). After all, civilizations conquer each other and there are civil wars that reform existing governments. Can only imagine...

Verdistise as a scum peasent hole (like poor rivertown). Or the main trade center between this kingdom and others. Or a haunted village of the damned.

Farmlands now a lake and a thriving fishing community. Maybe a town built on top of the lake like in The Hobbit.

Aleroth now controlled by an evil empire from the west.

The wasteland can now be a marsh from climate change. Or has grown and taken over the once lush elven lands.

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

Greentea, we don't know that ED doesn't have an isometric view; that may be an option in addition to the over-the-shoulder view we have seen. We at least know the camera angle and height is movable (though not if we will have manual control over that). The upcoming presentation at the Leipzig Games Convention this Friday will be using the PC interface (as opposed to the XBox version shown earlier), so we may find out more about this soon.

Welcome to the forum. wave

LightningLockey, Beyond Divinity is still available new from Amazon, eBay, etc.
