Hello, everyone,

A member of the RPGWatch staff has just published an restrospective article on div .

You can read it here : http://www.rpgwatch.com/show/article?articleid=91&ref=0&id=179

It is imho quite an interesting read, to see, how the game looks like when someone is looking back, so to say.

Alrik

A good read, especially having just beaten the game for the first time 2 days ago. I love this game. I first played the demo years ago, when I guess it was in PC gamer or some other mag. But I could never find the game in stores, and I guess I eventually forgot about it. I loved the demo, so his idea that the first area of the game turned some people off does not apply to me, thats what made me fall in love with it. I was reminded of the game not long ago. It was in Target for $10, so I snatched it up immediately. And now I have finally beaten it. Beyond Divinity is definitely on my list, but I'm also going to play Divine Divinity again.

Welcome to the forum, Tenorek. wave

I also liked the demo. It was a little heavy on the hack and slash, but there was enough humor and a few quests in town to show it wasn't just an action RPG. The existential skeletons sealed the deal.

Another thing that stood out right away was the world interactivity. Stuff stayed where you put it, and you could collect chests, etc to organize your loot. If there was a pile of rocks, etc, then there was a chance they could be covering something of interest. I tried the demo for an action RPG some time after finishing DD, which had better graphics. However, almost all of the chests were simply painted onto the background, and could not be opened. I got to one point exploring town where there was a pentagram in a house with candles at each point. Immediately I tried to light the candles to see if that would summon something or trigger some event, but they could not be interacted with. After that I just quit the demo and uninstalled it.

Sounds like Sacred. I remember doing the same thing, trying to read manuscripts and grab food from tables, etc. What a beautiful but lifeless world! down Admittedly, I enjoyed the game for what it was, but there were zero speech options and world interactivity didn't go beyond that of Diablo II. I had read somewhere that the game was originally designed to be an in-depth RPG then the developer changed and it became extremely simplified & watered down. Oh, and sorry if this has gotten offtopic but there's a Sacred 2 in development for 2009. Yet another competitor for ED? Maybe only if Ascaron amps up the RPG elements, which I kinda doubt.

Edit: Back on topic, the article was a great read, but when does THIS ever happen the game?!

Someone apparently resurrected the skeleton summoner (from under the warriors' guild), cast Aura of Command on it, and brought it with them to the wastelands. It starts summoning skeletons when any enemy are within range, which can add up (as shown in the screenshot), though they do not follow you.
The skeleton summoner is one of the creatures you can resurrect and cast Aura of Command on which will not collapse when you sleep.

I did it ! I did it ! smile

I exactly did it this way : Summonned the skeleton summoner ... which was an interesting effect. smile

But I think someone did it before me ?

But the screenshot is not from me.

I always used resurrect on the trolls outside the Dwarven thing, then came back and killed them again. Helped me get to a really high level.

Yeah it's a great game. Good article.

And welcome!
