So i am having a strange problem with the installation...I run the setup..choose the folder to begin installing the game, put the CD 1...so far so good...when the game asks for CD 2 to continue and i put the CD 2 the setup window closes and that磗 it...when i try the installation again(with the CD 1 in the tray) the 创progress bar创appears..reaches 100% fast and the setup windows closes again...what the hell!!!

Anyone had this problem or can help me??by the way i am using windows XP Service Pack 3...and i just finished icewind dale 1 on my pc...so i dont think my computer has 创issues创磜ith older games i guess....

So the install program just hangs or exits when you put in the second CD? Are there any error windows or anything shown in the task bar, that could be minimized, or something?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the installation?

Hey there Raze...yes the installation suddenly exits when i put CD 2...and i dont see any error messages...i never seen a error like this before...i am used to appearing during the installation error messages about some error and such THEN the installation is canceled...but in this one the installation simply exits...i dunno if its about CD 2...

The first time i installed it i rebooted my pc and closed the anti-virus and such...now everytime i try to install it again...it happens that problem about the 100% bar...

I am really at a loss right now ....

Did you try the manual install procedure from the troubleshooting link I gave above?
If the problem is with the install, you should be able to just continue where it left off. If there is an issue with the CD itself, you should at least get some kind of error trying to extract files from it.

Well like i said...when i try to install it again...the bar goes to 100% fast..and it doenst even ask for CD 2...the setup simply shuts down and goes back to windows...i tried to extract the filse from disc 2 and it didnt indicate any error...so i can leave the 创corrupt files创out....

I have tried the manual installation before...after i extracted all the files and such...and click on the Div.exe it says that its missing some file named 创DIVDIALOGSYSTEM.DLL.创

i dunno what is this file about....

The DivDialogSystem.dll file is in the root.rar file on the play CD. If there is a problem with your CD, that file is small enough to email or upload somewhere. Check the install procedure again, though, as you may have just missed selecting that file when extracting the rar files on the play CD.

If you browse to the Divine Divinity folder in Windows Explorer and delete everything there, you should be able to start the install program again without having it jump right to 100%. If you do a minimal install rather than a full install, the game might not ask for disk 2 until you choose a character (the female wizard character data is on the play CD, the rest of the character data in on disk 2). A minimal install might still want disk 2 to get the male warrior data, but just getting some of the data could conceivably avoid whatever is causing the problem with the full install.

i may have to try the manual installation again...but i dont know if it will work...by the way..what is this 创CRC error创...in one of my failed attempts to install the game...i swear i saw this window once...perhaps is it related??

Even if the manual install does not work perfectly, it should at least narrow down exactly where the problem is. Did you check if the install program created an error file?

CRC stands for cyclic redundancy check; it is a way to test if a file has changed (ie become corrupt). When an archive program creates a zip or rar file, etc, it calculates a checksum value (string of numbers and letters) based on the data in the file. When extracting a file, it again calculates this value, and compares it to the original value stored in the archive; if the 2 values are different an error is generated.

A CRC error could be caused by a scratch on the disk (or fingerprints / dust), interfering with the drive's ability to read the data, a defect in the disk or drive, or an incompatibility between them. If possible, try the install from another optical drive (even if the problem is with the CD, some drives may be better at error correction or reading problem disks).

Hhehehe I know its hard to believe....but it doesnt indicate any error...not a single error window nor anything...it simply exits frown

I dont think the problem in on the CD...since i dont see any scratches or marks on it...and my computer its kind new...and so far it didnt had any problem with older games or anything....Hell i even got to run a DOS game on it lol

This is the first time i ever seen a error like this...i tried googling for an answer but i cant find anything...i really dont know what to do now frown

Beta testing various software, I've seen lots of bugs that result in an application simply exiting (even commercial or standard Windows apps can crash like this). It doesn't happen very often with DD's install program, though when there is a CRC error it doesn't always display a message about it.

There does not necessarily need to be anything visibly wrong with a CD in order to have a problem reading part of it. However, since you only got the error message once, there may have just been some dust or something on the CD, which caused a temporary problem (unrelated to the installer crash).

Did you try the manual install again?

There is a file verification procedure in the Troubleshooting Tips topic, which can identify missing files, as well as potentially corrupt ones.

The DrvMgt.dll file should be in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run' folder. Did you check in Explorer if the file is there or actually missing? If missing it can be re-extracted from the first install disk, from the executable.rar file in the 'disc1' folder (though if you got the div.exe file from that same rar archive, I'm not sure why the DrvMgt.dll file would not have been extracted in the first place).

Osiris.dll should also be in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run' folder, extracted from the root.rar file in the 'disc3' folder on the play CD.

For the memory error, was the error message from Windows or the installer? It could indicate a problem reading the CD, a problem with your memory, or just details about the program crash.

There are a couple memory testing programs you can try. RAM that is starting to go bad could cause random file corruption or read errors in memory intensive applications (game installs, burning DVDs, etc) while not causing any issues with normal operations.

The error happened during the installation period when it asked for CD 2..the bar was filling and then suddenly this error problem appeared and the setup windows closed....

I checked my cd3 data folder...and i cant seem to find this osiris file...the Drv file i already found it in cd 1...maybe the problem IS the missing file??

But the mystery remains about the setup-exit problem....oh and i didnt run any scans lately....

The Osiris.dll file is in the '..\disc3\root.rar' file on the play CD. It should have been extracted into the '..\Divine Divinity\Run' folder in step 5c of the manual install procedure.

It is in the roots.rar file.

7-Zip comes with a file manager you can use to browse or extract individual files from archives. However, you should also just be able to re-extract the root.rar file into the '..\Divine Divinity\Run' folder.

I stated in the manual install procedure that 7-Zip could not extract multiple archives at a time, but the latest version can. This makes it easy to select multiple rar files in Windows Explorer, and just right-click drag-and-drop to extract to the desired location.

That one is also in the root.rar file. It may be easier to just re-do the manual install than to look for individual missing files each time you get an error.
