"I think I have to upgrade my computer to play the Witcher, have heard a little about it, though. Is it like Divinity?"

You probably will. It has steep system requirements, and I bought a new video card and more RAM just to be able to play it. It was well worth it. It may knock Divinity out of the first place slot. In short, like Divinity, it has an involved & complex story, dialogue and moral choices that change the outcome of quests, and a good balance of fighting and non-violent questing. Unlike Divinity, it's pretty serious, grim and gritty most of the time. The high requirements are mostly because the game looks so good. I won't dwell on it here, but check out some screenshots here, system requirements here, and a thread about it here on the forums.

"Always looking for games that are similar to Divinity - thanks for the recommendation. Sacred comes close, just started that and I like it lots. might be a thread on here about divinity-like games, I'll have to check!"

There sure are! Check these out:

Poll: Which RPG?

I'll just sum up with my own recommendations on how to follow up on Divinity, since somehow I didn't contribute to those threads. First, there's Larian's follow up game, Beyond Divinity. You can read all about here on the forums and try out the demo too. Highly recommended.

You've already got Sacred and the Diablo games, which I highly recommend. They're on the more action-oriented side, and if you like them then you'll probably like Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege II (not the first Dungeon Siege! - it's boooorring), plus the respective expansions for each. These two games look better graphically, but are more linear, and lack the huge, open, explorable world that make Divinity and Sacred so fun. Still very good though. The Chosen: Well of Souls is one last "dungeon-crawler" game that I'll mention as being quite fun.

On the more role-playing, story-oriented side of the coin, there are a lot of Black Isle games that have the look of Divinity while having a deep story and lots of choices: Baldur's Gate I and II, Icewind Dale I and II, Neverwinter Nights I and II...however I personally don't prefer these games because they expect you to already know the rules and party dynamics of Dungeons and Dragons, so there's a steep learning curve. The Dungeon Siege games allow you to manage a party of characters without the hassle of D&D rules. The exception to my non-Black Isle preference is Planescape:Torment, widely regarded as the best RPG of all time. It's hard to find though. I'll also mention Arcanum and Siege of Avalon as worthy games with good stories.

Well, those are my favs, I'm sure I've left out titles that others would include, so just browse through the threads to see what other people recommend.

"I have questions about playing the survivor character, am confident I can find answers here!"

Oh, you will! Most games with Divinity's age have forums that are just DEAD, but there are some pretty dedicated helpers here. Plus, we're all getting geared up for div2 !

"Again, I'm just jazzed someone else likes this game as much as I do (pretty nerdy, huh?) I'm the least-likely player of these sorts of games - the boys at GameStop look at me like I'm insane! I tell them my purchases are for my nephew! women my age just aren't supposed to be into this sorta stuff, I guess!"

I think it's safe to say you're among fellow nerds and Divinity-lovers here. No shame! Tell those boys at Gamestop those RPG's are for you and they're missing out!

Happy questing! horsey
