Please forgive me, but most games I play use cheat-codes. However, I've noticed that in this game, (at the moment I'm playing the Divine Divinity game, patched to V1.0034A) that it is very easy to die, not least because you tend to get attacked by NPC's that are far too powerful for your level.

Whilst I appreciate this is an early game, let me be clear, usually there are some cheats - and I only use them to get past the worst bits, then normal play resumes - and often these cheats are developer's cheats.

The one I need most is one for invincibility - or God mode. Is anyone able to help at all? As far as the game itself is concerned, I have no problems, and am really enjoying it; I propose to get the next games in the series after this, so you see my reason for needing the cheats!

There are no cheat codes for the game, but there are ways to easily cheat (see the end of the post). In general, though, if you are running into problems in a particular region, you can usually explore in a different direction first, or check merchants for equipment upgrades. Consistent problems may need an adjustment to strategy, stat point distribution or skill use.

Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version)

How is your agility? If it is too low you will be hit more often and miss more of your own attacks. You do need constitution, but to some extent using more potions can make up for low hit points, as long as a strong opponent can not kill you in a couple hits. This has to be balanced with strength for equipment requirements (etc), and intelligence (for a mage).

Within the game itself there are various techniques that are quite effective, many described in the topic Chasing Josie... (spoilers). These tips should work for any strong opponent, and a quick recap follows.

MeteorStrike can be cast as quickly as you can left click, and has a bit of a stunning effect.

Survivor's Curse can be cast repeatedly on a target to drop their resistances, and combined with any elemental attack.

Blind + Hell Spikes is fairly effective, though Hell Spikes needs to be maxed for best effect. With groups of opponents you can skip the Blind spell.

Deadly Gift and scorpion traps will let you take out any opponent, though scorpion traps are relatively rare at the start of the game.

Any character can use a hit and run tactic with a bow, or Deadly Disks, etc. Burning Wall can be used either to slow down (and damage) a following opponent, or to surround an opponent (or group) to do even more damage.

A warrior can drink a shadow potion, stand next to an opponent and use the spin attack (clicking on the ground somewhere) to do damage but not turn visible. This is almost a cheat, and will make any fight easy (and boring).

The Frost damage bonus on a weapon (random attribute) is quite over-powered, freezing any opponent once you get a hit in (then you just stand there and whack away until you win).

Now the cheats. devil

For a temporary god mode, a reasonable approximation would be to give yourself a large supply of restoration potions (or healing potions early in the game) and setup a potion hotkey. As long as an opponent can not kill you in 1 or 2 hits, practically unlimited healing would make you very hard to kill.

To copy an item; quick save the game, then drag an item out of your inventory, but not somewhere there is a red X. Without dropping first, quick load the game, then release the mouse button when it starts to load. This will produce a copy of the item on the ground, with the original still in your inventory.

There is a much easier method for items which can be stacked (gold, potions, etc);
Drag a stack out of (or into) your inventory (or container) and hold down the control key before dropping. This will bring up the split stack pane; type in a negative number and hit enter (the checkmark will be greyed out). This can also be done in the trade window.

Alternately, you can use DAD's item editor to give large stat stat bonuses to a particular piece of equipment and/or a large damage bonus to a weapon. This editor can also rename items, so you could have a 'god mode ring of the cheater', or something.

iZakaroN's SaveEditor (also on Kiya's site, at the item editor link above, with a description) can be used to redistribute stat or skill points, or be used for permanent cheats.

For the sake of completion I'll mention the Deviance Trainer, which sounds like just what you want, with unlimited health/mana etc. The major drawback is that the most recent version of the trainer is for the 1.33 patch, which is not the most recent patch for the game. I think the item and save editors Raze recommended are a bit more stable.

Thanks very much, these are extremely helpful tips indeed.

I've known of the Divine Divinity Games for a while, however, I do know this is only the first game in the set - and I'll be playing them later!

There is far easier way to duplicate things, at least in this game (doesn't work for the sequels), it doesn't involve quick loading and works with all items, not sure about if the dupes keep the stats (in case of weapons and armor).
This works best with potions, if you don't feel like a big cheater, but can be done with everything, including gold for getting some potions/armor/weapons "legitimately".

Open your inventory and a container (doesn't need a container, the ground works as good as anything, but containers are better for it), drag the item you want to be duplicated (works with stacks as well), keep the mouse button pressed, then pause the game (default "spacebar"), let go of the mouse button, you'll hear a drop sound, but the item is stuck to your cursor still, press escape to call the main menu and immediately press it again to resume (or press "resume", for the same effect), you'll see the item is gone from your inventory and isn't in the container either, now unpause with "spacebar" and they will appear, like in your inventory, so the copy in the container (or ground if you don't use containers). Keep doing this, till you have enough potions to keep you alive in big fights (or enough gold to buy everything).
