Correct, Josie has high resistances, they must be brought down first (survivor curse), then spells work better. Her lowest resistance is lightning, 75, all others are 100. Is it impossible to beat her with no spells and without being a warrior? I went straight survivor and I only have a point into a few offensive spells. (only cause I found a book or two)
Max Trueshot, Bow Expertise, Aug Defense with 4 into survivor and 3 into repel damage. Then I have 1 in withering curse, meteor strike, elemental strike, limbs of lead and life leach, plus a few defensive spells. (all were books other than life leach and I needed that for the guy before this wench) I guess that makes my bow user pretty much gimped huh? Specially since I have yet to find a decent bow.
I have already beat the game as a warrior with little to no challenge, so I wanted to try and beat the game as a straight bow user (no offensive spells), but I guess that was the wrong idea, huh?. Level 35 so far as a survivor without many spells. Granted it has taken me along time kiting mobs around room large enough to move in.
Should I scrap this character now

I beat her as a warrior, but without using the shadow potion exploit (just the passive Stun skill and a sword). True Shot is broke (no damage is added); use iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to remove the point you put into it. Survivor's Curse is much better than the wizard's Withering Curse, since it is cumulative and can not be resisted (even level 1 cast a few times in a row drops the target's resistances significantly) Curse + Elemental Arrow (or Poison Arrow) should work well, I would think (unless you are trying to avoid using magic at all). If so, Poison Weapon would help. [color:"orange"]I guess that makes my bow user pretty much gimped huh? Specially since I have yet to find a decent bow. Try the merchant in the elven village for bows. Several people have described archers as being over-powered, especially combined with a large sight range. Archery as a warrior - my thoughts (some of this should apply) [color:"orange"]Should I scrap this character now Josephine is the toughest opponent in the game, so I wouldn't give up easily based on having trouble with her. Should I scrap this character now I beat Josie as a straight bow user with 2 skills: splitting arrows and poisoned arrow--devastating combo. Limbs of lead didn't help me against her. I guess it depends on what you get on the bow. You need something that will keep her from casting Blind--with Blind on your archer you'll never hit her.

By using it with splitting arrow you deliver a large quantity of poison and don't need to cast curse on her to lower her resistance. Of course this is only one solution out of many possible ones.

The easiest way I'm aware of, is to disable her from attacking, Kyia style. Last time I did it was with a mage. After I stepped down the ladder, I drew the dwarves as far away from J. as possible, then immediately drank an invisibility potion and ran to the back of the room (where she is), placed myself in a corner, then cursed her several times and then immediately froze her. This should be easy to do, because while you're casting Curse on her, she can't move or attack. Then just attack her till she dies (I used Elemental Arrows), or take care of the dwarves first if they're giving you problems (and then curse/freeze her again and kill her). Obviously you need the Curse and Freeze skills for this (or Polymorph instead of Freeze). I'm not sure what her spirit resistance is though, so Curse level 1 might not work (because although consecutive casts of it stack together, the duration of each cast is still in effect and it may be too short at level 1 for all the casts to stack long enough to get her resistance below the level required by Freeze or Poly).

Any way where do you get the sword of the gods. All i have is that noble sword from sacraficing the dagger and amulet. that is the best i've found.

The same things still work on her at the end of the game. She still uses the same techniques to try to kill you.

THe trick that worked best with me with Josie (damn shes TOUGH!!!!) was the following:
Being a lvl 30 mage I found myself in a closed and extremely narrow room surrounded by battle-scarred dwarves that kicked butt! The first thing I did was to run around the room (avoiding her nice spikes, of course) and casting as many lightning bolts as possible (that is the most difficult part, since she keeps summoning the wonderful dreadknight thats such a pain). Once the dwarves are dead, its a piece of cake: just cast "Elemental Haul" (the one that causes Fire, Lightning and Poison damage, I am not sure is that is the correct name, its the last one in the list of that kind of spells, sorry about my memory) from a distance and she wont bother to follow you. Its a bit hard on potion consuming, but its worth it! IT FEELS SO GOOD WHEN YOU GET RID OF HER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Abaddon

it's been 3 years ago.. i defeated that josephine with this spells..
summon dreadknight = lv3? elemental hail = lv3? restoration = lv5? skeletal wall = lv4? shield = lv2?
im sorry if i had questions marks in it because i cant really remember the level of my spells exactly.. its been 3 years ago.. here's what ive done.. i summon first the dreadknight and the skeletal wall to distract her and the dreadknight that she summons.. if she casts blinds with me, i just have to remember where she stands.. click and cast elemental hail on her.. if she teleports, i check the four corners of the room, if i find her again ill cast the elemental hail again on her, i use the shield spell to resist her spikes a bit then restoration for my life.. when i run out of health and mana, i drink a white potion.. that's all what iv'e done to her 3 years ago..

I just wrote somewhere else how the Forum Community here is really great and though these past few post are old I was wondering what are you people playing today. Just very curious/nosy I guess.
If i'm not on DD i'm playing a little bit of XBOX360 (CaptEncante) I swear this is my last month of WoW or cleaning my backyard so my kids can enjoy it this summer.

I seem to have come up against a seemingly insurmountable obstacle. Whilst I realise this topic was posted some time ago, I have run up against a similar obstacle, but would welcome any help - I'm playing as a warrior. Shyon said in an earlier post: You only can run out of Hell Spikes, nobody have chance against it, try death scorpions to kill her. Use potions and the scorpions.
My problem is killing Josie, not the dwarfs - I've already seen to them, but Josie herself. In the quote above, mention is made of "Death Scorpions" - I have quite a few Scorpion traps, but they're immobile so don't seem to fit the bill. I have "Poison Weapon" activated, with poison in my inventory, I also have "Deadly Gift" activated as well. To be honest, this is one of the few times that I would relish some sort of invulnerability or God spell - I've already died at least 8 times! Normally I don't use cheats, but now and then there are uses for them - and I think this is one. Comments anyone?

If you use a shadow potion, you can stand next to Josephine and repeatedly use your spin attack to do damage, without having her counter attack (clicking on the ground does not count as an attack, so you do not loose the invisibility effect). Enough restoration potions will make you virtually invulnerable, as long as your opponent can not kill you in one or two hits. To use traps you need to know the survivor's skill Deadly Gift. When you select that as your secondary skill, a menu will pop up with icons of each type of trap in your inventory, for you to select one. After that, you just right click on the ground somewhere to set a trap. Scorpions will wander around (not a problem in confined spaces such as this); if you want them to follow you, you need to use the Aura of Command spell on them. Some people have reported that using Aura of Command cuts the experience points from scorpion kills (or summoned / resurrected creatures) in half, while others found there was no difference.

Thanks Raze
I realise that the other posts were a while ago, but to be honest I've only started DD a little before Christmas 2008, so please excuse me if some of the problems I ask about seem to be ones most others have already surmounted - please remember, they're new to me!
Anyway, I used Singing Bladed with the Poison Blade spell, and as you suggested, plenty of restoration potions and shadow potions. I read what you had said about the Scorpion Traps, but it appears to me that you can only have one spell operative at any one time - unless the second one is a passive spell.
All being said, I managed to defeat Josephine with the method stated in the last paragraph, so I didn't need to try to use the Deadly Gift Spell.
Many thanks once again, in future, if I need help, I'll create a new topic.

You can only have one secondary skill active at a time. However, if you switch to Deadly Gift you can release a few scorpions (or just one) and then switch to another spell/skill. Also, I'm pretty sure that once you apply poison to a weapon, you do not need to keep Poison Weapon active (just switch back to it when you run out of poison charges, in order to re-apply more poison).
As long as you avoided directly targeting Josephine, you should have been able to defeat her with only one shadow potion and the spin attack (if she is standing too close to a torch you should be able to put it out before attacking, perhaps using Telekinesis). Of course that makes the fight very boring, so you may have avoided that on purpose.
Most problems that most people ask about have been brought up before in the forum, to one extent or another. If that wasn't a big deal when many, many people posted about not having any stamina after visiting the cursed abbey (Halberd of the Rock) or a hanging blessing ceremony (no-CD hack not being able to handle the cutscene there), then it isn't an issue now that the forum traffic is fairly low (though for a more than 6 year old game it is doing pretty good). Also, most newcomers to the forum are not going to see very old topics, so it doesn't hurt to bring up stuff once in awhile.
Resurrecting an old topic is fine, as long as it is on-topic (that can keep relevant information together and make that topic more useful as a reference). If the original topic devolved into chat or went off on a tangent of other problems or suggestions, though, you may want to post a new topic anyway.
