Hi!

I wanted to continue my old saved game so i instelled DD on my new PC(it uses Windows 7). The problem is when i want to load the saved game DD freezes. When i press load i see screenshot of the saved game and the blood/sword thingy goes up to 100% but the progress bar don't disappear it stays for 10-15 secs and then the game crashes to desktop.
I tried:
-reinstall with the latest patch
-reinstall with 1.31A(i saved the game from a 1.31A DD)
-compat. modes
-run as administrator
-the saved game consost of 22 files so everything is right.
-the editor can open the file and everything seems right.

The funny thing is i can start a new game, save it, ant i can load it without problem.

Please help me.

/E:

I read about an error.txt in one of the topics.
It says: "Story load error: loading file 'savegames\sdsd\story.000'."

"Story load error: loading file 'savegames\sdsd\story.000'."

It looks like the story file from your old save has become corrupt. Try making a copy of your old save game folder, delete the story.000 file in that new folder and replace it with one from a new game. If the copy loads, that will confirm the file story.000 was corrupt.
Unfortunately, the two story.* files keep track of quests, so can not simply be replaced with files from another save without causing problems with various quests and/or cutscenes, etc.

If you burned the old save directly to CD-R/DVD-R as a backup, make sure the files in the save folder are not marked as read-only, as that will also cause the game to crash trying to load it.

Did you just keep the latest save from your old game? How far were you in the game?

If you still have your old PC, does the save load there? Maybe the story file got corrupt transferring it over, and might be ok if you zip the save folder and try again.

Yeah the saves were on a DVD but i removed the copy protection. I kept only the saved games and the problem is i always use only one slot for saving in every game(now i know it's a bad habit) so there were only 1 save.

Just finished every quest on the mainland(Aleroth) and explored every 1cm^2 on it i was just about to speak to Elona(to enter her dungeons) after i was banished from the castle.

Unfortunately my old HDD is dead so i only got the savegame on a DVD. And i burnt it copmressed(rar) so it is very strange because i can decompress it(so no corruptions) and winrar's 'Heal' function does not find any corruption in it either.

I tried to start a new game and copy it's story.000 to my old save folder but game crashes when loading.

Oh btw. I installed on a virtual drive XP and DD: same problem.

Try replacing both story.* files in a copy of your old save. I'm not sure if mixing different story files will cause a problem in itself, or not.

It is possible the file was corrupt when you saved it on your old computer (assuming you didn't re-load it after that), or became corrupt before you backed it up.
