Forword; My laptop just went blank, once, like the battery had been taken out. when I got it running again, and tried Divine Divinty, I messed up, which resulted in me having to start from the beginning again.
In round one, I ran into the camp south and west of the Barracks, to met by some geezer, and his imp, which subverted the minds of all the soldiers, who then wanted to kill me - they lost.
In round two, i have not entered this camp, as I wonder if this will prevent me from getting a 'hidden' quest.
Am I clear to go in and slot them all?

Do you not make occasional saves? You can increase the number of quicksaves the game keeps, if you wish (see the replies in this topic). You are clear to clear out the soldiers. There is no quest or loot of any value in this area, and you can not get them help. If you leave the area without killing the soldiers, after you meet one of the wizards who cast the mind control spell (later in the game) they will be freed and revert to normal. You miss the experience points (from not 'defending yourself') that way, though.

Okay - time to empty a camp, then. I do make saves, but when I went back to the game, it asked if I wanted to reset - I said no, and carried on, only to find that the saves were no longer 'applicable' to the version I was playing. Not a major problem, now. If it happens again, I say yes! lol

Someone else reported that after a crash in Windows, 10 minutes after exiting the game, when they rebooted they discovered that all of the inv.b2 files had been deleted from their save game folders. Windows had apparently decided they were corrupt, and 'fixed' them; fortunately this is a zero byte file, so was easily replaced.
If you got an error about a version conflict, it could be that Windows rolled back changes made by the patch (assuming you have an early release of the game that wasn't already updated) in which case re-installing it may help, or there was a problem in the save folders preventing the game from reading the version info.
BTW resetting the configuration will only help if the problem that cause the crash was in the configuration files, or if there was a corrupt file in the dynamic folder (which the game uses as a cache, creating / copying files there from the save game folder when you load, and writing / copying from that folder when you save a game). I rarely reset after a crash, because it is usually caused by me hex editing something, etc.
